Russian Federation passport series, passport series and number, example of registration

Every person in any state has a national passport. Some also have a foreign document of a certain type, which is established by state migration authorities.

Since the passport form is subject to the strictest accounting, numbers are placed on it, perforations are applied, and on the page with personal data there is also a hologram displaying the letters of the Russian Federation and the state emblem to protect against counterfeiting.

Those who receive a passport for the first time (after reaching 14 years of age) should know what all the levels of protection on the passport mean, since this is the most important document from the moment of receipt. Protection is carried out in several ways, for example, such as a passport series by region or check digits in certain lines, which will be discussed below.

By law, your passport must be kept from damage and loss. For its improper use, a citizen bears administrative liability, which may result in the payment of a fine.

Passport replacement

In the event that a citizen needs to replace his passport due to any circumstances, he must provide documents to the migration service as soon as possible. According to the law, the application must take place no later than within a month from the moment such conditions arise to replace the passport.

The Administrative Code provides for violation of these terms in Article 19.15 with a fine of 2 to 5 thousand rubles.

It should be noted that a passport is replaced upon reaching a certain age, if it is damaged or lost, if the surname, first name or patronymic, gender are changed, or if inaccuracies are identified in the passport records.

Russian passport series example

Unlike a pension insurance certificate or TIN, when when they are replaced, the individual digital designations remain the same, in the new document the passport series and its number change.

Do the series and numbers of passports change when they are replaced?

According to the law of the Russian Federation, every citizen must change his identity document several times throughout his life. The reason may be age, changes in surname due to marriage, loss of a document, changes in appearance beyond recognition, etc. If for some reason you received a new passport, its numerical code does not remain the same, but also changes.

In the serial code, only the first two digits can match if the document has always been issued in the same area. The next two digits can also be the same, but only in the situation if the passport was issued and then changed in the same year.

Second page

The designation of the passport form consists of 10 characters, which are arranged in blocks of 4 (series) and 6 (number) digits. These numbers are never repeated in full, except for the designation of the series and year of issue.

Passport series, that is, the initial four digits, the first two are the OKATO code of the issuing region.

passport series and number

In the first block, the second two digits are the year the passport was issued. Sometimes this designation and the actual year of issue do not match. This does not mean that the passport is invalid, it’s just that the line of designations with the required numbers has ended, and Gosznak changed the series to one number.

The passport number is not associated with anything; each issued document is numbered in order.

Control line

In addition to the fact that there is a series and number of the passport, the document also contains (on the third page) two lines at the bottom, under the photograph. This designation does not contain a readable chip, as many people think, but contains duplicate information about the passport.

The letter P means that this passport is machine readable, the next letter is N – the type of document (national). The next characters in the line are RUS. Accordingly, in addition to the fact that the series and number of the passport indicate the region of issue and affiliation with the Russian Federation, this information is additionally written in the duplicate line.

The following letters are the personal data (full name) of the passport holder, written in Latin letters using transliteration. Between the components and to the end of the top line, the sign “<<” is written, which replaces the space in the document.

The second line begins with the passport series being entered, but only the first three digits, and then the document number and check digit. For example, if the series and number are 3213 279750, then the line will indicate: 3212797506, where 6 is the control value.

This is followed by an indication of citizenship (RUS) and date of birth (year/month/date). Before the “<<” signs, the check digit and gender of the passport holder are written (M – male, F – female). For example: RUS8011299F.

After the space there is a final group of numbers, starting with the last digit that ends the passport series. The date of issue in international format and the department code are also indicated.

The duplicated information is completed by two check digits. Example: 3130614420055<80.

It should be noted that the control numbers do not contain any secret information. They only mean the accuracy of scanning such data as the owner’s personal data, number and series of the Russian passport. Example of control duplicate lines:

What is the series and number of a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation

Each passport form is produced strictly according to a specific template. Previously, their registration was carried out by divisions of the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation. But on the occasion of its abolition and liquidation, the listed functions were transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Each strict reporting form is made in a special way and has its own unique, non-repeating numbering, which includes a series and number.

Font and printing method

Until 2008, the series of the Russian passport, as well as the number, were applied in the printing house to all pages of the passport in the same way. After 2008, the typographic printing method remained unchanged on the second and third pages, and laser perforation began to be used on the remaining pages.

Russian passport series

The font in which the digital identification of the passport is printed is unique. It is not used in any document. This is done in order to eliminate the possibility of counterfeiting. Although some people are able to pick up a similar font and use it for personal gain.

By the way, passport falsification is punishable by law, as noted in Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Where is the series and number of the passport located: examples with photos

To finally decide the location of the unique passport code, it is best to look at example images.

The photo shows the second and third pages of the passport of a person who is a citizen of Russia. On the right, vertically along the entire length of the pages of the document, the series and number are printed in red font. The first numerical value, consisting of 2 digits - 39, means the area in which the citizen received the document. In the situation presented in the photo above, the document was issued in the Kaliningrad region. The second numeric value, separated by spaces - 14, means the year in which the passport was received. The remaining six digits - 935349, indicate the form number.

Residence permit and passport

The code and series of the passport of a foreign citizen who enters the territory of the Russian Federation to obtain citizenship looks a little different. The example shows that the digital designation is located not on the right, but on the left of the first (conditionally) page, and on the next - before writing the surname.

passport code and series

The series on a foreign passport is also written differently from how the series on a Russian passport is indicated. Example: 51№1402606.

All information is necessarily duplicated not only in the control line, but also after each word. Thus, the surname, first name, patronymic, place of birth and other information are indicated both in Russian letters and in transliteration.

Control line

There is also a control line in the foreign passport and residence permit of a foreign citizen. The writing of information is slightly different from the form of presentation of information in the Russian national passport. For example, in addition to the date of issue of the document, the expiration date in international format is indicated.

Moscow passport series

Another difference from the Russian document is that the passport series by region of issue is not registered.

Use of passport data

Document details are necessary in many life situations. For example, when applying for a job, applying for a bank loan, or purchasing a mobile phone.

Checking the series and number by last name and date of birth

Finding out the details of a document when it is at hand is not difficult. What should I do if I urgently need information (to fill out forms, receipts, questionnaires), but I don’t have an ID? Is it possible to find out your passport number via the Internet and how to do it?

Indeed, there are many sites on the World Wide Web that provide this type of service. It is important to understand that services that offer to find out the series and number of a passport by last name are fraudulent. After all, information about the details of the document is owned exclusively by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and does not distribute it. By using the services of one of these sites, a citizen, at best, will lose the money transferred for the information, and at worst, the computer will be infected with viruses.

Authentication

All information about passports is stored in the database of the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. There you can also find information about documents that have lost their legal force. Passport verification is offered on various Internet services. However, the most reliable information is contained on the official management portal.

You need to select the menu item “Online services”, from the proposed list - “Checking invalid passports”. Next, enter the series and document number in the appropriate fields and duplicate the captcha. After the request is sent, the required information will appear on the monitor within a few seconds.

Passport fines

Many government agencies offer online services to citizens. The most popular is obtaining information about imposed monetary sanctions. Information about fines is available on the websites: State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, FSSP, State Services. To obtain information on any of them, the following are entered in the lines of the search form: full name of the offender, car number (if sanctions are imposed for non-compliance with traffic rules).

How to find out the date of receipt of a passport by series and number

The region where the document was issued is indicated by two numbers at the beginning. The next two reflect the year in which the forms were printed. Moreover, it usually coincides with the one in which the passport was produced. And the remaining six are the serial number of the document form.

Often, uninformed citizens are interested in whether and how it is possible to find out by the series and number who issued the internal passport. Based on the above, the details do not contain such information. You can find out the date of issue of your passport, but only if you have it in your hands.

Moscow passport

Since Moscow and the region represent a fairly large territory, several codes are used that indicate the series of the passport. From the above table you can see that Moscow, being a city of federal significance, has a code of 45, and the Moscow region and the Baikonur complex have a code of 46.

Accordingly, the number and series of the Moscow passport may look like: 4506 354657, where 45 is the region code (Moscow), 06 is the year of issue (2006), 354657 is the serial number of the form.

An identification document for a resident of the Moscow region may look like this: 4608 023476, where 46 is the region code (Moscow region), 08 is the year of issue.

What it is

The passport series and number is a unique digital code that is assigned to the document form during its production.

It is used to record forms, identify a specific person, etc. The number consists of three groups of numbers.

Two of them have only 2 characters, they form a document series, and one has 6 digits - it is a number. In total, the series and passport number consists of 10 digits from 0 to 9.

Comment. The document form also contains the line “Personal code”. It was planned that it would indicate a unique code for each person, assigned once in a lifetime.

But the RF Armed Forces later declared it illegal and the line was filled in just like that. Although, for technical reasons, no one began to change the passport form.

How to make sense of the numbers

The Russian passport number consists of three digital groups. It does not contain any letters or other symbols.

But sometimes there can be some confusion here. In the early 2000s, the situation with passport forms was not so stable and often Gosznak had to produce new forms a little ahead.

As a result of confusion, it is quite possible that a passport issued in 2005 contains a series containing 06 in the second group.

Sometimes the complete opposite happened. For example, a series with the numbers 05 after the region code could well have been issued at the beginning of 2006. But this does not make the document invalid.

If you have any doubts about the validity of your passport, you can check it on the official website of the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Until 2008, all numbers in the series and passport number on all pages were printed exclusively in red ink. Then the format of the document changed a little.

On pages 2-3, the series and number continued to be indicated using typographic printing, and on the rest they were indicated by laser perforation.

This was done in order to improve the protection of passports of Russian citizens. The remaining 6 digits in the passport number are nothing more than the serial number of the form, assigned automatically by machines during its production.

Why are they needed?

The series and number of the passport allow you to distinguish one document from another. They are unique, which allows, if necessary, to distinguish even documents of full namesakes with the same date of birth.

This is interesting: Who belongs to the citizens who are in reserve?

When issuing a passport, information about its series and number must be stored in the migration service. Information about changes is also sent to various government agencies.

The series and number in anonymized form cannot be classified as personal data, which can be used and processed only in accordance with the Federal Law “On Personal Data”.

This allowed, in particular, to maintain an open register of invalid passports.

Where can they be requested?

An ordinary citizen quite often has to fill out various documents indicating his passport details.

These can be various applications filled out when applying to government and non-government organizations and institutions.

You will also need to indicate your passport details when concluding any agreement, drawing up various powers of attorney, receipts, etc.

But you need to take into account that without the passport itself, this information has no legal force.

Therefore, as a rule, the data in the documents should always be checked with the original passport to prevent fraud.

Do they change when replacing a document?

A passport replacement may be necessary for various reasons. The law obliges a citizen to do this if they change their last name or other personal data, reach a certain age, or if the person’s appearance no longer matches the photo in the main identification document.

Much of the data in the new and old passport remains unchanged. For example, only a small number of people change their date of birth.

But this has nothing to do with the number and series of the document. In fact, these numbers mean the number of the form; they are applied during production at the Gosznak factory and even technically cannot coincide.

However, it is not difficult to find out the series and number of the previous identity document. Information about it must be entered on page 19 of the new passport.

Sometimes it is necessary, for example, to make changes to agreements concluded before receiving a new passport.

The availability of information about the previous document allows you to make sure that a specific person is applying, and not a full namesake with the same date of birth.
