Jobs and available vacancies in India

Labor market in India

India is the world's most populous country, home to approximately 1.3 billion people. Therefore, it may seem that there is no shortage of labor here. In fact, there is a shortage of qualified personnel in this country. This is explained by the low level of education of the majority of Indian citizens.

Specialists from Russia and the CIS countries have an advantage over other foreigners. Unlike citizens of the USA, Australia or Japan, they are quite satisfied with a salary of $1,000 per month. By and large, only local residents can compete with our employees.

The most in-demand professions in 2021

First, you need to find out what class of specialists the country needs in 2021. If you look for information on your own, it should only be fresh.

The latest data presented by The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry tells which economic sectors of the country require an influx of new labor:

  • shortage of biotechnologists;
  • pharmacists;
  • hospital workers (in particular anesthesiologists, surgeons, gynecologists and radiologists);
  • finance;
  • the sphere of education.

The work in India doesn't end there. If you want to be your own boss, then we advise you to go for seasonal work in tourist cities such as Goa, Pushkar, Manali, Rishikesh.

Work in India can be found by both highly qualified employees in certain fields and general specialists. But do not forget about competition from the local population. In most cases, in addition to your desire, a good level of English, international diplomas, and in some cases knowledge of Hindi is required.

How to find a job without intermediaries

Despite the fact that the average salary in India is officially about 150 US dollars, this figure is very arbitrary. In the villages the standard of living remains very low. In large metropolitan areas, many can expect an income of 500-600 dollars per month. It is noteworthy that the average salary of foreign specialists in India is disproportionately higher than that of local residents.

Those who go to India, as people say for a long ruble, need to be prepared for the fact that the competition is very high and applicants for the position can be not only native Indians, but also foreigners. In this case, the applicant must have work experience and be a specialist of the highest level. All this data needs to be supported by documents; no one will take your word for it.

Work visa to India

Despite the fact that India is considered a country in which the level of poverty is still one of the highest in the world, the country is developing quite quickly economically.
This can be evidenced by the various pharmaceutical and food companies that annually produce thousands of products for export to Europe and other parts of the world. That is why many residents of Ukraine who came to this country at least once in search of work remain to live here. Of course, finding a job in India is not an easy task, since there are many willing applicants for one job. But there are chances and they are quite real. Types of employment

As a rule, people come to India to work either for the winter season (from October to March) or for at least a year. Many foreigners prefer winter, because in summer the temperature here rises to +38 °C and even higher.

Much also depends on how well the potential employee speaks English. A foreigner is unlikely to be required to speak Hindi or Bengali. To find a vacancy or work in India for Russians, basic English and meeting other requirements necessary to perform professional duties are sufficient.

Work without knowledge of the language

Some Russian citizens want to move to India and work there freely. It is very easy to find a job in India without knowing the language.

Seasonal work

If we are talking about the winter months, then there are no special features here. Few people come to India to work for less than six months - there is no point, the travel and accommodation will hardly pay off. Otherwise, everything depends on job responsibilities. There is no concept of “seasonal work” here.

It is not customary to come to India to harvest, as in EU countries. Here the locals cope well with this.

Temporary job

In some cases, a foreign specialist is invited only for a certain period or to perform a specific task, for example, to set up and launch new equipment. List of specialties:

  • guide;
  • technologist;
  • English teacher;
  • System Administrator;
  • bartender;
  • waiter;
  • photographer;
  • fireman

There are no significant differences in the employment procedure itself, with the exception of the terms of the contract.

Other options

In India, female models of European appearance are in great demand. And not only for filming advertisements, but also for participating in public events. All this may seem strange, but among Indians there is a strong belief that if foreigners go to an establishment, it means it is more prestigious than those where only locals relax.

There is also a demand for dancers and circus performers in India. Usually they are “ordered” for weddings. For Indians, marriage is the most important event in life, so they do not skimp on impressing their guests.

Modeling work is available for girls in India, although the pay is not very high - about $1,000 a month. This is much less than in China or Korea, but the requirements for girls here are lower.

Blog

One of the most underrated model markets today is the metropolis of Mumbai, located in western India.

The market is a little eccentric - here you can work in photo shoots for the world's main publications in the morning, walk the catwalk in traditional Indian clothes in the evening, and the next day star in a real Indian film, with songs and dances, as our grandmothers loved.

You can return from India with a good book if you work for a top modeling agency that offers you castings for good magazine shoots.

Model requirements

They prefer dark-haired people with dark eyes. In general, somewhat similar to the locals, but still a European type. An interesting feature of the Indian market is that in many agencies specializing in working in the local market, the requirements for parameters are not very strict; excessive thinness is not needed.

Flight

Paid by the receiving agency.

Language

Most Indians speak English. India was a British colony for a long time.

Types of modeling work

The full range of work for models is presented.

Editorial - India has offices of the best fashion publications. Elle, Vogue, L'Officiel, Grazia. There are also a number of local magazines with good quality footage.

Catalogs - shooting for catalogs for both the local and foreign markets. Filming for catalogs of online stores selling clothes in the USA and Europe.

Lookbooks - shooting in designer clothes.

Catwalk - shows from Indian designers. Sometimes they pay very well.

Commercial - There is a lot of work for models in the advertising sector in India. Video advertising, outdoor advertising, print advertising.

Filming: Many models succeed in this field. Indian cinema (Bollywood) is no longer represented only by traditional films with songs and dances, but also by high-quality films shot in the American style.

Transport

For castings and to work you are transported in an agency car.

Payment

Depends on the level of work and model. Rates start at $200 per day of work.

India has an interesting law: as a foreign worker, you cannot be paid less than $25,000 per year.

Visa:

Working. Your modeling agency will help you arrange everything.

Some models fly as freelancers on a tourist visa so as not to pay a percentage to the agency. But this is done at your own peril and risk.

Apartments

Provided by the agency.

Conclusion

Mumbai is a very unique city. It does not at all shine with cleanliness and order, but it has its own charm. The contrast between the rich and the poor is striking (you, as a model, will be classified as rich). The Mumbai model market is perfect for adding to your portfolio.

If your parent agency says that this is where you should make your first trip, then it is likely that it really makes sense. The main thing is to carefully select a modeling agency in your home country. In Moscow, try to get into ABA Group or another top-level agency.

Consequences for trying to get a job illegally

Immigrants are most often punished with fines for illegal work activities in India. Usually these are small amounts of $150. If a foreigner does not come on a work visa, then absolutely any work is considered illegal.

It is quite difficult to find a job legally in India due to high competition for jobs. But, if a potential candidate knows languages well and has really useful skills, he will be able to find his job with decent pay.

Reviews from migrants

Anna, 24 years old. My friends and I have been coming to Delhi for the second year now. We work as dancers at weddings. Orders are received through an Indian agency. In a few months we visited almost the entire country. Once I even had the opportunity to travel to Nepal to put a new stamp on my passport about entry into India. I'm satisfied with the work. More than $1,000 a month. Food and life in general are cheaper here than in Russia. But the streets are very dirty. The locals are hospitable and always smiling. But it’s better not to walk down the street alone, especially in the evening.

Ivan, 35 years old. Look only for legal work, because otherwise you cannot avoid constant police extortion. English needs to be spoken. The work here is hard, long working hours, unbearable heat, dirt and a terrible smell. It's very difficult for Russians here.

Has anyone worked in India (Delhi, Mumbai)???

I have worked in many countries, but India was a shock to me.

Cons 1) Most (80-90%) managers do not pay salaries at all or partially. You will work for them for several months and 90% of the time you will not get anything. Many are on blacklists, for example Yasir Altaf/or his undercover agents. There is a lot about him on the Internet, read this in a separate topic. Go only from someone who has been verified by someone!!! There are few of them and they always have a line of people wanting to go. And be sure to have money with you for a ticket home. Necessarily! I know girls who worked for free because they simply could not leave. 2) Work both night and day, as a buffoon-dancer-waitress-fountain. You will be forced to work as anyone, after the 4th day you usually sit tied up in the apartment because they can call you. The girls did not sleep for a day or two. You come home from work, take a shower and go to another job. 3) They will transport you all over India by train, car, sleigh, dog or plane if you're lucky. On the road for up to 8 hours, forget about food, sleep and toilet. Wild dirt everywhere and all around. 4) Conditions in the “apartment” can be terrible - there is no shower at all, the toilet is a hole in the floor and you have to flush it with a ladle. It’s cold in winter, in some apartments it’s like that, I hope it’s better. 5) After 3-6 months of such work, you will be green, if you are lucky with green pieces of paper in your pocket. 6) You will be paid money only at the end of the contract of 3 or 6 months. If they pay. You will only receive food money (1000-2000 rupees/rubles) for food per week for expenses. They will calculate (if) before the plane. 7) Mobile Internet is normal, but buying a card is a whole quest. There is usually no Wi-Fi, it is very expensive in India, no one will spend money on it. 8) You won’t be able to afford normal food/shopping because there will be no money. All the advantages of India immediately disappear. If you're lucky, you'll go to Kerala once or twice. But you won't see anything. 9) Forget about dating and personal life. 10) Wild filth and unsanitary conditions. In Delhi, everything becomes covered with black dust within a few hours.

And now the advantages: 1) No consummation. 2) If you dance professionally, you will perform, although mostly white dance. Nobody needs a level, it’s the simplest thing. 3) They pay for a one-way ticket (3 months) or both (6 months) and ideally pay money for a visa. All of the advantages.

Moral: If you are young and healthy, not very squeamish and do not want to be consummated, this is a last resort. Look for other contracts, smart people warned me that it’s tough, I thought “I can do it, I can do it.” I saw in Mumbai they were looking for dancers for films, the salary was 700-800 dollars, but that’s if you dream of a dance “career”. We are “white meat” here.

Features of moving and living expenses

If you have an idea to live in India permanently, you need to familiarize yourself with the conditions, especially the bacteriological characteristics of the country. Europeans do not have immunity to many pathogens inherent in this climate zone.

Moving involves a change in the way of life, since Indian culture has its own characteristics.

Prices for food and low-end housing are low. If you stick to snack bars and hostesses, your daily budget will be around $10.

But higher-level housing is expensive:

ApartmentAreaPrice (dollar)
Rent a one-room apartmentsleeping50–400
center100–600
Price per 1 square metersleeping500–1500
center1000–3000

The price level depends on the city:

  • Mumbai - tall;
  • Delhi - average;
  • Kolkata - low.

What you need to be prepared for

Before you come to work in India , you should find housing. The statement that it is cheap in this country is incorrect. Moreover, after paying all taxes, there may be a very small amount left from the salary. In each region, the cost of renting an apartment or room is not the same.

Difficulties with documents for a foreign specialist do not end with obtaining a visa and work. Usually a visa is issued for a short period, which turns out to be much less than the duration of the contract. Therefore, it will have to be extended many more times.
