Embassy of Armenia in the Russian Federation

Hello Garegin. I have a big problem with citizenship... I came to Rostov from Georgia in 2003 on a visa for 3 months... I didn’t get registered because I would have to go back, and the military registration and enlistment office there bothered me... and I have remained in Russia to this day . I work at different jobs where I can earn a little extra money. my father received a Russian citizen with a Soviet passport using a simplified passport. I married a Russian citizen (Armenian), there was only a wedding in an Armenian church, I couldn’t sign, there are no documents except a birth certificate in Georgia. My Georgian passport, which was issued for 5 years, has expired. Right now I’m already 28 years old.. I want to do something but my hands are tied.. a child will be born soon and I can’t give my last name.. I’m asking you for help.. put me on the right path, tell me what to do? I don't want to go to Georgia. Is it possible to get an Armenian passport through the Armenian embassy? or a residence permit in Russia or temporary residence permit. Are there any laws that can help in such situations? I can’t go anywhere... I don’t want to be deported. I'm really looking forward to your response.. thank you.

The old-style passport was valid for five years. After this, it had to be replaced with a new one. Since 2014, the Republic has launched the process of replacing old documents with biometric ones, and also began providing the population with identification cards. From now on, old passports are no longer issued.

The Armenian biometric passport is valid for 10 years, after which it must be renewed. It is considered foreign, but also has domestic circulation. Persons who have applied for it are issued this document within 15 days.

The identification card is intended to replace old civil passports and is valid within Armenia. Her term of office is 10 years.

According to current legislation, all citizens of the country who are over 16 years old must have a biometric passport of Armenia. It can be received at any age. For those under 16 years old, it is issued for 3 years, and after reaching 16 years old - for 10 years. The Armenian biometric passport includes fingerprints and iris scans, as well as an electronic signature.

The identification card issued to citizens of Armenia includes the following data: last name, first name, date of birth, photograph, registration address, electronic signature, as well as information about blood type (optional).

Government services: photo requirements for international passports

  1. A camera or phone with a good camera. The photo should be of high quality;
  2. Good lighting. It should be as close to studio light as possible. Do not take photographs in the evening under artificial lighting;
  3. A white wall as a background or a tightly stretched white sheet, whatman paper. Another way is to replace the background in the program when processing the photo;
  4. Take several pictures so that you can select the most successful shot from your computer;
  5. The photo taken can be either printed on a printer or downloaded through government services in electronic format;
  6. Look at the resulting pictures - there should be no shadows, no rays of the sun passing along the oval of the face or neck;
  7. Using special programs for creating passport photographs, you can adjust the photo size to the desired size. An alternative to specialized applications is Photoshop. But you should carefully retouch the pictures without going overboard with the changes. Usually it is enough to remove red eyes and pimples. You cannot change facial features - reduce the nose or enlarge the eyes, lips;
  8. The picture should not have any darkened areas or, conversely, overexposed spots. To do this, set your camera to a balanced shutter speed. For studio photos, its value is always constant - 1/160;
  9. Place the camera more than two meters away from the model. But it should not exceed five meters;
  10. Place the camera at the model's eye level. It is best to use a tripod for fixation. This will eliminate possible distortions during shooting or trembling hands.
  11. When working in Photoshop and replacing the background, carefully select the person’s figure and head - if you accidentally cut off a piece of hair or capture a dark area, the photo will not look good. They may refuse to accept it for your documents.

Appearance of the passport of a citizen of Armenia

The passport cover is dark blue. On the front side there are inscriptions:

  • In Armenian - Հայաստանի Հանրապետություն and in English - Republic of Armenia (translated into Russian, “Republic of Armenia”).
  • In Armenian - Անձնագիր and in English - Passport (translated into Russian, “passport”).

In the central part of the cover there is an image of the coat of arms of the Republic. This document includes 32 pages and contains information about the owner of the passport in Armenian and also in English.

How to find out who issued your passport

It would seem that this information does not carry any important meaning for the subject himself, why then does it need to be indicated when applying for a job, concluding transactions, etc. This is explained quite simply. The series and number of the document can always be distorted, but if you enter information about the registration authority and the date of issue of the passport, then the interested party will directly have the opportunity to check information about the person of interest.

When you receive a document that allows you to identify a person, on its second page you can see which specific body provided him with a public service related to the issuance or replacement of a passport.

More than 80 countries in the world give citizens of the named country the right to visit their territory without a visa or provide it upon arrival. Also, since the beginning of 2015, the procedure for obtaining visas to the United States of America has been significantly simplified for citizens of the Republic.

Persons who have an Armenian passport, as well as citizens of other countries who are of Armenian origin, cannot visit the Republic of Azerbaijan. The authorities of this country do not provide them with guarantees of safe stay, as a result of which entry into its territory is prohibited for them.

If you have a health insurance policy, you just need to call an assistance company in Armenia, and not look for a medical institution yourself, pay for services, etc. You can find an acceptable insurance option on the Cherehapa online insurance website. To do this, just follow a few simple steps: write the country and time of travel, select an insurance company from the list provided, click “buy” and fill out your personal information, pay, receive the finished document by email and print it.

There are countries where a mandatory visa requirement is to have a health insurance policy. Armenia is not one of them. However, going on a tour without health insurance is, at a minimum, not responsible. And we are talking not only about saving money, but about receiving timely help if health problems arise while staying in a foreign country.

Persons who have the opportunity to obtain Armenian citizenship

There is a list of persons who have the right to receive an Armenian passport and citizenship of this Republic. It includes:

  • Residents of a foreign country who entered into an official marriage with citizens of Armenia.
  • Parents of a child who has Armenian citizenship (if he was born in the country).
  • Ethnic Armenians.
  • Persons who have been awarded Armenian citizenship for special services to the country. For them, an application is submitted by an employee of a special government structure.

The latter do not have to fulfill the requirements for obtaining citizenship:

  • Lived in Armenia for the last three years.
  • Know the Constitution of the country.
  • Know the Armenian language.
  • Currently, an agreement on a visa-free regime has been concluded between Russia and the Republic of Armenia. Citizens of these countries also do not need to present a foreign passport when crossing the border.

What is the difference in the validity period of a foreign passport for different countries in 2021?

If the validity period of your foreign passport for departure is short, you may simply be denied a visa, and it does not matter whether you receive it at the consulate or are going to apply for it upon arrival. Moreover, for citizens of different states this “margin of safety” may be different, depending on the existing international agreements of the country of your citizenship with the country of visit.

We all know that two types of documents are currently issued - old and new, and they differ, in particular, in their different service life. If a regular passport can be used for five years, then a biometric passport can be used for ten years. On the page with your personal data there is the date the document was issued, as well as the date until which it is formally valid.

Double citizenship

The legislation of the Republic of Armenia approves dual citizenship.

Holders of two passports have the rights of ordinary Armenians. They are subject to the duties and responsibilities prescribed by the state.

If an Armenian citizen becomes the holder of a second passport, he must notify an employee of the relevant government agency about this. This is mandatory, since those who violate this rule will be punished.

Documents required to obtain citizenship and passport

A capable person who has reached the age of 18 can become a citizen and holder of a passport of Armenia. At the same time, he must have lived in the territory of the state for at least 3 years, know the contents of the Constitution, and also speak the language. To obtain citizenship, you need to collect and submit to the police (visa and passport department) the necessary documents:

  • an application in the prescribed form, signed personally;
  • autobiography;
  • passport valid at the time of application;
  • photos taken for an Armenian passport;
  • medical certificate;
  • documentary materials confirming residence in the country for the last three years.

    You can also submit an electronic application to replace your Russian passport through the government services portal gosulugi.ru. Your application will be verified, and after paying the state fee you will be invited to the department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to submit documents

    . An employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will check the documents and inform you about the deadline for the passport to be ready.

    According to the rules

    1. There is no need to strain, concentrate on your posture, appearance, facial expression and other points. You should relax in front of the lens and be as natural as possible.
    2. You shouldn’t put off taking photographs until the last minute; it’s better to plan a visit to a photo salon in advance and prepare as much as possible for it.
    3. You should rest and get enough sleep the night before so that there are no dark circles under your eyes in the photo.
    4. Do your makeup and hair at home in advance, take a photo with your phone or camera, evaluate the result and adjust your appearance.
    5. Do not consume too much liquid or salty food on the eve of your visit to the photo salon to avoid swelling on your face.
    6. When taking photographs, do not pinch your lips too tightly, otherwise they will look like a thin thread.
    7. It is not recommended to raise your head too high and lower it too low. In the first case, the photo will look unnatural; in the second, a double chin may appear.
    8. It is best to take a photo in the first half of the day, when your face will look freshest.

    The dimensions that the head occupies are up to a millimeter. The height of the head image should be 30 - 32 mm , width: 18 - 22 mm . The Ministry of Internal Affairs even prescribed how much space in the photograph should be taken up by the empty space at the top - 5 mm (plus/minus 1 mm).

    Other opportunities for obtaining Armenian citizenship

    A person who was previously a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, but for various reasons lost this status, has the right to receive a new Armenian passport. In this case, he needs to add to the documents listed above:

    • certificates of no criminal record from the relevant structures of the country where he has been for the last 10 years;
    • documentary materials confirming his work activity;
    • birth certificate.

    Ethnic Armenians must attach to the established package of documents a birth certificate of their direct Armenian relatives or other documents confirming their nationality.

    If there is no passport, but there is a desire to obtain citizenship of the Republic of Armenia, the citizen can attach documents granting him temporary residence.

    If documents are issued by a foreign state in its language, then they must be translated into Armenian and certified by a notary.
