Features of entry using an internal passport
If a Russian is going to visit Armenia for tourism purposes, then when crossing the border he will only need to present a passport.
The arrival point must be the air terminal in Gyumri (“Shirak”) or in Yerevan (“Zvartnots”).
At other airports in Armenia, a Russian who does not have a foreign passport can be sent back.

The internal passport must be valid for the entire trip plus 3 months after returning home.
Do not damage its cover or pages containing important information.

Additional papers
Additionally, with an internal passport when crossing the border, you can provide:
- diplomatic passport;
- a document confirming that the person intends to return to his homeland;
- service passport.
The tourist must have return air tickets and a hotel room reservation. But this is not a mandatory requirement. Usually Russians are not asked to provide additional documents.
Traveling with children
Children under 14 years of age can enter Armenia only with a foreign passport. It is not possible to enter the country using a birth certificate.
Persons over 14 can cross the border using an internal passport. Like adults, they can only do this if they travel by plane.
If the child is accompanied only by his father or mother, in addition to his passport, to cross the border, he will need a notarized power of attorney from one of the parents.
How can a resident of Armenia obtain Russian citizenship?
It is worth noting that from 2021, having a passport of a citizen of Armenia allows you to apply for Russian registration without any additional difficulties. This became possible due to the fact that an agreement was concluded between the states, which provides for visa-free entry, residence and even employment in these territories.
Moreover, residents of Russia and Armenia are allowed to have dual registration, that is, in order to become a citizen of another country, there is no need to write a renunciation of citizenship in the other. How can an Armenian citizen obtain Russian citizenship? First you need to get an Armenian passport, and then do the following:
- Translate your passport into Russian and have it notarized. Make sure that all the data in it matches and is clearly visible: country code, full name of the owner, code of the agency that issued the document, address of the place of registration and other important information.
- Prove your knowledge of the Russian language. This can be done in this way: bring your document on education in a Russian educational institution. If a person has not studied at Russian universities or colleges, then a document about education is required, which must include a high score in a subject such as the Russian language.
- Provide a certificate of no criminal record in all places in which you have lived over the past 10 years.
- Have a migration card.
- Obtain a medical certificate stating that the person does not have serious illnesses.
- Photos.
- Receipt for payment of state duty.
- Marriage certificate (if available).
Application for registration is considered from 2 months. For this period, a paper is issued confirming the fact that the citizen has submitted documents for a passport. If the decision is positive, a mark indicating registration in the state of Russia is placed in the Armenian passport. This implies the possibility of employment and residence in our country.
Dual citizenship on both sides is possible only when a person has lived in the territory for at least 3 years and has a good command of the national language. The decision to renounce one citizenship and the desire to obtain another is understandable and provided for by law, but in such a case there is no need to do so. The solution is this: it is better to have dual citizenship than to give up one and then try long and hard to get it back.
In order to become a citizen of Russia, according to the law, it is enough to write an application and provide some papers to clarify the information and the seriousness of intentions. It is possible to refuse Russian registration at any day; it is enough to know the code of your identity document. To do this, you need to come to the Armenian embassy and write a corresponding application (to quit being a citizen of Russia).
Obtaining an Armenian document is quite simple if you comply with all the requirements and correctly indicate your data. Thanks to the passport, Armenians have the opportunity to obtain registration in the Russian Federation (without obtaining dual citizenship).
