general information
Since 2004, Poland has been a member of the Schengen agreement. A Schengen visa to a country is issued when the purpose of a Russian’s trip is a business trip or visiting relatives. If a citizen of the Russian Federation plans to stay in Poland for a long time, then he will need to apply for a national visa.
There is a special pass for Russians living in Kaliningrad. It is called an MPP card and is issued in a simplified manner in 2021.
To obtain it, the applicant must prove that he has lived in this city or in the Kaliningrad region for the last 3 years.
This is what the MPP map looks like for residents of Kaliningrad
The average time for issuing an MPP card is 3-4 working days.
The geography of visits with this visa for Russians is limited. Residents of the Kaliningrad region are allowed to travel only in the following areas bordering this region:
- Putsk.
- Gdynia.
- Elblag.
- Gdansk

In what cases is a visa required?
Travelers who have a visa stamp from one of the 26 Schengen countries in their international passport do not need to apply for a separate visa for Poland.
This country has a fairly flexible visa policy, but there are several rules:
- documents must be issued in the country that issues the visa;
- You need to spend more time in the country where the visa is issued, and come to Poland after that.
Some categories of citizens are exempt from the requirement to obtain a visa, namely:
- holders of diplomatic passports;
- crews of sea vessels and rescue aircraft;
- foreigners who have received a residence permit in Poland;
- transit tourists who have a transfer in Poland (provided they do not leave the airport).
A visa is issued if you are traveling for tourism purposes, to visit relatives, for work or study. Compared to other Schengen countries, obtaining a Polish visa is easy.
Ukrainian citizens with biometric passports do not need a Schengen visa. However, you can travel to Poland using an old valid passport with a visa.
The procedure for obtaining a visa for Belarusians does not differ from the conditions of other countries - it is necessary to collect and submit the necessary documents to the embassy.
Submission of documents
If a Russian is applying for a Polish Schengen visa for the first time, then he can only submit documents in person. Exceptions include:
- Obtaining a Polish visa for a person with disabilities.
- Submitting an application through an accredited travel agency.
- Applying for a visa for a minor.
Only the teacher submits an application for a group of schoolchildren. Group members who have reached the age of 18 can submit documents in person.
If it is not possible to submit an application in person, you must obtain the written consent of the diplomat. This document is attached to other certificates.
Cost and time frame for obtaining a visa
The cost of a visa depends on the type and urgency. The price includes consular fee and visa center fee. Costs for consular fees:
- Schengen visa type C for all purposes of the visit – 35 euros;
- urgent consideration of a Schengen visa type C for all purposes of the visit – 70 euros;
- registration of a national visa type D for any purpose of travel – 60 euros.
The cost of the visa service center fee is 19.5 euros.
The time frame for obtaining a visa is up to 10 days in normal mode and up to three days in accelerated mode.
However, deadlines vary depending on factors such as holidays, vacation of visa center staff, incorrect completion of the application form, or the need for additional documentation.
Under such circumstances, the processing time for a visa may take from 30 to 60 days, so we recommend contacting the embassy in advance to avoid delays.
If you use the help of intermediary companies, the cost of obtaining a Schengen visa will be much higher, since intermediary services are additionally paid. As a rule, the amount varies between 100-120 euros per visa.

For a tourist trip
To obtain a visa to Poland, a Russian tourist must provide the following package of documents:
- Reservation of an apartment or hotel room with 50% prepayment.
- 2 Schengen visas without violations.
- Confirmation of payment for a 3-day stay at the hotel during previous trips.
The last two points of the list are relevant when a Russian is interested in obtaining a multiple-entry tourist visa. He is also required to apply for a multiple pass.
Self-registration
Many travelers do not yet know how to independently obtain a visa to visit Poland. Today, traveling abroad without contacting travel agencies is becoming increasingly popular. Self-registration is carried out by contacting visa centers or Polish consulates, which are located in different regions of Russia.
A common way is to contact a visa service. Submitting documents to an embassy or consulate is used when receiving a refusal or obtaining a national Polish visa.
Applying for a visa to Poland on your own involves undergoing fingerprinting when submitting an application with a package of documents. This procedure came into effect in September 2015. Fingerprints are taken at the consulate or visa center. You can also take photographs for the application there. Information about the applicant is stored in the database for 5 years, after which the procedure must be repeated. Children under 12 years of age are exempt from submitting biometric data.
For a private trip
The list of documents for obtaining a visa to Poland at the invitation of a private person is as follows:
- A photocopy of the first page of the inviting party's passport.
- A document proving that the inviting party resides in the country legally.
- An invitation document containing all the information of the inviting party, the applicant’s passport number, date and purpose of travel.
The invitation letter is certified by a notary. If the representative of the inviting party is not related to the applicant, then you will need to provide the original and a photocopy of the letter. They are registered by the voivodeship at their place of residence.
Medical insurance
Without a health insurance policy, it is impossible to obtain a visa to Poland, since having medical insurance for the entire duration of the trip is a mandatory requirement for obtaining a visa to a Schengen country.
To obtain medical insurance in Poland, we recommend using the service cherehapa.ru

Example of an invitation for a business visa to Poland
Another important document is a written request from a Polish employer to issue a business visa to a Russian citizen.
Owners of individual entrepreneurs must additionally provide a bank account statement for the last 3 months. Persons engaged in economic activities must attach certificate 2 of personal income tax from the tax office to the main list of documents.
Food in Poland: what to try
In Polish cuisine, as in German, much attention is paid to cabbage and meat, which is reflected in such a famous dish as bigos - stewed cabbage with meat. Also popular are red and white borscht, zurek, rassolnik, perogi - a dish similar to dumplings, sorcerers, and dumplings. People in Poland also love desserts: sirnik, poppy seed pie, charlotte, mazurka.
Poles consume no less beer than their German neighbors (maybe even more). Poland, like Germany, is famous for its ancient beer traditions - the foamy drink was known in the country already in the tenth century. The variety of beers in Poland is impressive. To taste Polish beer, we recommend visiting one of the many beer festivals held in Poland, for example, Chmielaki Krasnostawskie.
In addition to beer, other alcoholic drinks are common in Poland: vodka, various liqueurs (Zubrowka, Starka) and fruit liqueurs, honey, gzaniec.
Food prices in Poland are reasonable, but they naturally fluctuate depending on the status of the restaurant. You can eat very inexpensively in so-called milk bars, where prices are often three or even four times lower than in restaurants. These bars are popular among the local population as they offer traditional dishes.
By the way, two Polish cities - Warsaw and Krakow - are among the ten cheapest cities in Europe according to the Price of Travel portal. In turn, Poland is one of the five cheapest countries in Europe.

Obtaining a long-term visa
Persons whose stay in the country is not limited to a short period of time must obtain a long-term visa. It gives a Russian the opportunity to stay in the country for at least 360 days / 12 months. Having this pass in hand, a person can move freely within the Schengen zone for 90 days. The list of documents for a visa must include all certificates confirming the need to obtain such a pass. Today it is issued to students and people traveling to Poland for work.
A student visa to Poland is issued on the basis of a document indicating that a Russian citizen is included in the list of students. A student ID is also provided. A high-quality photocopy is attached to the original of this document.

Visa to Poland on your own, travel by car
Many Russians come to Poland by private car, since the travel distance is short and you can see many beautiful places. In addition, this is the shortest route to travel to central Europe.
Travel by car can be easily planned in advance. There is no particular difference in the paperwork; registration for a Schengen visa to Poland has category C, as for other trips. All procedures occur in a standard manner.
A transit route through the Polish Republic by car is also possible with a visa to another Schengen state. The customs service may ask questions, but they are resolved on the spot.
When crossing the border of the country by car, a mark with the image of the car is placed in the passport. This means the fact of visiting by ground transport.
For a transit trip
The package of papers for Russians traveling in transit is as follows:
- Book a hotel room in the destination country.
- Photocopy of the invitation letter.
- Original and photocopy of destination country visa.
Usually these documents are sufficient. But sometimes a tourist is asked to provide additional information or is invited to an interview.
Russians, citizens of Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus do not need a transit visa to travel through Polish territory to the Schengen countries, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
You must have visas from these countries, residence permits or temporary residence permits. The period of stay on Polish territory does not exceed 5 days.
Refusal to issue
According to the legislation, the rules of the visa center now allow you to appeal the cancellation of a visa. In this case, you can find out the reason.
A stamp is placed from 1 to 4, in which the following values will be entered:
- Refusal of a visa.
- Didn't pass the interview.
- The documents are not drawn up correctly.
- Entry is permanently prohibited.
Reasons for refusal:
- False information – a person wrote incorrect information about himself.
- Falsification of documents - the invitation is made to a non-existent company.
- There is not enough money - the amount with which you can travel is 100 zlotys per day.
- A new foreign passport is a rare refusal.
- Old visa refusals – if this person has already been refused based on the above data.
- There is no insurance policy - every person must have one, this confirms that he is insured.
- There is no official explanation for the trip - a person cannot explain for what purpose he wants to enter the country.
Pass for purchases
A shopping visa to Poland can be single or multiple entry. The stamp is valid throughout the Schengen area. In the application, the Russian must indicate that he is going specifically for shopping.
A multiple entry pass is issued if you have an old Schengen visa to Poland, issued within the previous 3 years. The next time a Russian applies for a visa to Poland for shopping, he will need to provide a photocopy of his foreign passport with the previous stamps.
And also attached is confirmation that the Russian actually made purchases in this country. To do this, you will need to provide TAX FREE. It can be replaced by a VAT invoice with the name of the applicant.
This is what TAX FREE looks like
Do I need a visa
Russians need a visa to enter Poland. It is part of the Schengen zone and the European Union, so residents of Russia need a Polish visa.
Conditions under which you can enter freely:
- planning temporary or permanent residence in Poland (passport and permit required);
- possession of an active diplomatic passport;
- entry as a member of the air or sea crew of a civil vessel (written confirmation of this is required);
- entry as crew members or workers of rescue ships;
- transfer to a plane in Poland, lasting no more than a day.
Visa-free travel is available for 62 countries, but Russia is not one of them.
Traveling with children
If a Russian travels with children, then he will have to prepare and submit the following documents for a Polish visa:
- Original birth certificate of the child.
- A photocopy of the birth certificate.
- Consent to the removal of children.
- Photocopies of all important pages of parents' passports and Schengen visas.
The last point is relevant when a visa for a child is issued separately. Consent for export is issued when a young traveler travels only with his father, mother, or a third party. This document is certified by a notary. If it is impossible to obtain consent, then you need to provide certificates that explain this point.
This is what the consent of one of the parents for the child to travel abroad looks like
If the minor does not have his own passport, the visa stamp is pasted into the document of the father or mother.
Visa application procedure
You can apply for a visa after submitting a certain package of documents - a standard set that is suitable for all Schengen countries:
- international passport (validity must not be less than three months from the end of the trip) and copies of its pages;
- passport of the Russian Federation and copies of its pages;
- two photographs (photo requirements: white background, color, size 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm, 70% of the face);
- completed application form in printed form;
- health insurance in the amount of at least 30,000 euros, which covers the entire Schengen area;
- confirmation of financial solvency (bank account statement, certificate of employment, certificate of individual entrepreneur, etc.).
This is the basic list of documents, but for different types of visas you may need vouchers and additional papers such as transport tickets and hotel reservation confirmation for a tourist visa, an invitation to work for a work visa, a certificate from a university for a study visa and others.
List of documents for a visa to Poland for a child:
- visa application in two copies signed by parents;
- photo of the established sample;

- the child’s travel document or a copy of the international passport of one of the parents with information about the child;
- birth certificate (for children 16 years of age, internal passport and identification number) and a copy;
- certificate from school (for students);
- parents' work certificate;
- child's health insurance policy.
You can apply for a visa yourself or use the help of intermediary companies, but in any case you will need to be present in person at the consulate.
Step-by-step instructions for applying for a visa yourself:
- choosing an embassy and making an appointment (choose the one that is closer or the one you have already applied to);
- hotel reservation via the Internet;
- purchasing air tickets by phone or on the Internet;
- registration of an insurance policy (to do this, contact any insurance company, where it will be issued in 20 minutes);
- preparation of other documents (copies, certificates, etc.);
- filling out a form at the embassy and paying the consular fee.
By following these simple steps, you will quickly obtain your visa and be able to travel to Poland and other countries without worrying about crossing the border.
Visa for Ukrainians
In 2021, Poland decided to make some changes to the process of issuing work visas and work invitations for Ukrainians.
To get a job, you need to have an invitation from the Labor Bureau. This makes the employment procedure for Ukrainian specialists much safer. Documents processed in Poland do not end up on the black market, but for their intended purpose.
The package of documents for a visa to Poland for tourists is standard.
A tourist visa to Poland is not required in 2021. Travelers without a visa can stay in EU countries for no more than 90 days.
Types of visas
Permits for visiting Poland are divided into types and categories, depending on the purpose of travel:
- A and B are transit visas that are outdated. They are issued under category C with o.
- C is the most popular category of guest visa to Poland with a short validity period. According to it, you are allowed to stay in a Schengen country for up to 3 months within six months.
- D - national category of document with a long term. It allows you to stay in Poland for more than 90 days and cross the borders of other states for no more than 90 days.
Attention! For Russian citizens who are visiting Poland while passing through, or at the airport transferring to another plane within 24 hours, permission is not required. It is enough to have tickets and permission to enter another country.
In addition to the above types of permits, other categories apply:
- C01 – validity period up to 1 month;
- C02 – designed for six months;
- C03 – annual permit to Poland;
- C04 – issued for a period of 2 to 5 years.
The first two categories are issued more often than others, especially when traveling abroad for the first time. An annual visa is issued for active tourists who have repeatedly visited the European Union and have no violations. There are also multiple and single entry visas to Poland.
Tourist visa to Poland
Most Russians visit the country as tourists, so it is necessary to separately consider a tourist visa to Poland. This state has many interesting places - health resorts with European quality and reasonable prices, mountain landscapes, ancient cities. A tourist visa is classified as category C and is issued according to general standards.

Transit visa to Poland
Tourists from Russia often cross the borders of Poland by car to travel to Western European countries. Such transit is possible without issuing a national visa if there is permission to enter the country where the driver is traveling. For example, he will be allowed to cross the border of Poland with a visa from Germany or France.
If you need to transfer to another plane within the country, provided you are only at the airport, then a Polish visa is also not required. When it is necessary to leave the airport building, a transit category permit is required. When planning a trip abroad, you need to take these points into account.
Entry for residents of Kaliningrad and the region
There is a special document that allows residents of the city of Kaliningrad and the region of the same name to visit Poland. The name of the visa is MPP card, which means local border movement, intended for residents of nearby regions. The document can be prepared in a simplified way. To do this, you need to submit certificates confirming your residence in the Kaliningrad region and Kaliningrad for the last 3 years. The receipt procedure takes place within a few days.
Attention! This type of visa contains restrictions on visiting areas of Poland. Holders of such a document are only allowed to visit certain cities: Puck, Gdynia, Elblag, Gdansk and others.
Track readiness
After submitting an application and a package of certificates to the consulate, all that remains is to wait for an answer. The wait will not be so painful if you know at what stage the process of resolving the issue is. Every Russian has the opportunity to independently track the readiness of their visa. This can be done in two ways, by calling or online.
In order to check at what stage the visa is being processed, you will need to call the helpline of the Polish visa center. Phone number: (17) 388-02-46. To receive information from the operator, you will need to provide the ICR number of the check.
You can get the information you need only from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 17:00.
You can also track your visa yourself. To do this you need to use the online form. You must enter the number you received upon registration and your date of birth. It fits in a certain format: day/month/year.
We advise you to watch: checking the readiness of documents at the Poland visa center.

Many people are interested in the difference between obtaining a visa at an embassy or consulate and a visa center. The procedure is practically the same, except that registration and making an appointment is a mandatory procedure. The consulate has designated times for such services. Registration is made only by phone, as there is no electronic queue.

How long does it take to process
The timing for issuing a Schengen card is strictly regulated. It is processed within 10–14 business days. The national pass will have to wait a little longer. Visa C is issued within 5–10 days. If an application for an urgent visa is submitted, the issue will be reviewed within 3 working days. With an additional payment of 70 euros, the application is considered out of turn.
Sometimes the Polish Embassy takes longer to process a visa. The reasons for this are not yet clear, but such cases are quite rare.
Registration deadlines
Poland has been a member of the Schengen group for a long time, so the period for issuing a visa is determined by regulations. According to it, the time set for reviewing documents and obtaining a visa is a maximum of two weeks. The issuance of a national permit may take longer. Practice shows that Schengen category C is issued without delay and can be obtained within 5 days.
In case of urgent, extraordinary registration within 3 days, you will have to pay an additional 70 euros. If additional questions arise, the issuance of permits may be delayed.
How to Avoid Rejection
If an applicant knowingly provides false information or makes mistakes in the application form, he may be denied a visa. You can avoid this by following the following:
- Refuse the temptation to submit false certificates.
- Strictly adhere to application requirements.
- Fill out the form correctly and without errors.
- Provide evidence of financial security.
- Prove no immigration intentions.
If these points are observed, the chances of your application being approved will increase significantly. But the main criterion is the availability of a complete package of certificates.
We advise you to watch: refusal of a visa to Poland.
If the consul refuses to issue a pass, you can re-apply. There are no restrictions in this regard.
Trip to Poland: what to see
No matter how trivial it may sound, Poland is rich in historical and architectural monuments, and due to the glacier, which either advanced or retreated again, the country has a bizarre topography. What should you pay attention to when traveling to Poland?
Warsaw
In Warsaw, the historical center which was rebuilt after the Second World War, you should visit the cozy Old Town: Palace Square with the Royal Castle, St. Yana and the Church of the Jesuit Fathers, Market Square, where the smallest street of the capital, Kamenny Skhodki, begins. Don’t forget about Krakow Przedmieście, Lazienki, the Royal Route and the Palace on the Water.
Outside the Old Town, unfortunately, you will be disappointed: being the center of the country, the city is moving forward by leaps and bounds, so skyscrapers rise here and there, and due to Soviet influence in the city you will find many dull high-rise buildings.
Krakow
Krakow is by far the most visited city by tourists in Poland. And no wonder: there are so many churches, monasteries and chapels concentrated here! And Soviet development barely touched the city, so nothing will cloud your view. A must-see is Kazimierz, the Wawel architectural complex and, of course, the Old Town, where you will find a lot of interesting things, as well as the Market Square with the Sukiennice shopping arcade.

Lodz
Lodz, an industrial city, now attracts tourists with the beautiful facades of merchant and factory houses adjacent to industrial buildings. The city is rightfully considered a cultural center: the world-famous School of Cinematography is located here.
Lublin
Lublin, which is not as popular as Krakow and Warsaw, nevertheless has something to see: the authentic Old Town is not inferior to Krakow's. Many people also like this city because of the lack of crowds of tourists. Speaking about Lublin, it is difficult to forget about the sad glory of Majdanek - the death camp, which was located on the outskirts of the city. Now it houses a memorial.
Deadlines
10 days
Standard deadline for processing documents
The standard processing time for a visa application is 10 working days. In rare cases, the period may be extended to 30 days.
If there are grounds, the consulate can issue a visa urgently: the decision will be made within 3 days, with a double consular fee.
With a short-term Schengen visa, you can stay in the Schengen countries for up to 90 days in every 180-day period. The remaining days can be calculated using a special calculator.
Visa documents are accepted no earlier than 6 months before the trip. It is optimal to submit documents 3-4 weeks before the trip.

Foreigners can only enter the country if they have a Pole card, residence permit or work permit in the country.

About local border traffic (LBT) for residents of Kaliningrad
For residents of Kaliningrad, the possibility of crossing the border is always relevant, so they are more likely than other residents of Russia to apply for special border visas.
What do Russians need to know about MPP?
All persons who need a special permit to cross the border, valid on the basis of the Agreement on Border Movement, can register their applications by going to the official website of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, taking advantage of the e-konsulat system. This type of procedure coincides with the rules for filling out Schengen visa applications. When filling out an application, you should correctly fill out the proposed application forms in order to then deliver them with a general set of documents to the Consulate at the exact time specified for this visit, which will be written on the application itself.
And you should know that documents for MPP can also be submitted both personally and by immediate relatives, for example: a wife has the right to submit these documents for her husband, a father - instead of his own children who have not reached the age of majority.
Please note that applications not registered on the official website will not be considered.
