According to the latest decree of the chief state sanitary doctor of Kazakhstan, those arriving from abroad on flights who provide a certificate of absence of coronavirus using the PCR method, issued no earlier than five days before arrival, are exempt from mandatory quarantine. They are provided with an explanation of possible symptoms of COVID-19 and receive a corresponding receipt. Airline crews are subject to medical supervision at their place of residence (stay) by calling (if video calling is possible).

“Without a PCR certificate confirming the absence of coronavirus, those arriving will be sent to a quarantine hospital for two days for a laboratory examination. After receiving its results, persons with a positive test are transferred to an infectious diseases hospital, while those with a negative test receive an explanation about the possible symptoms of COVID-19 and receive an appropriate receipt. Persons with symptoms that do not exclude COVID-19, bypassing the quarantine hospital, are hospitalized in a provisional hospital. If passengers have a high temperature, they will be isolated for 14 days and placed in institutional quarantine,” the embassy added.

Those arriving via rail, road crossings and other routes, except air, from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Uzbekistan will undergo a survey, and they will also be tested for PCR. After which they will continue to follow their route.

“In the case of a positive test for COVID-19, the information is transferred to the Department of Quality Control and Safety of Goods and Services (DKKBTU) and the health department of the region indicated in the arrival form. After which he is subject to a medical examination. If there are signs of COVID-19, a citizen is sent for hospitalization to an infectious diseases hospital. If they are absent, he is explained about possible symptoms of COVID-19 and the need to seek primary health care, as well as be informed about the positive result of the examination for COVID-19,” the message says.

At the same time, the above requirements do not apply to government delegations of Kazakhstan and members of official delegations of foreign states and international organizations arriving at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

“Employees of diplomatic missions, consular offices and representative offices of international organizations accredited in the Republic of Kazakhstan, and members of their families arriving from abroad are subject to laboratory testing for COVID-19 at the place of residence/stay. They are explained about possible symptoms of COVID-19 and receive a corresponding receipt,” added the Kazakh diplomatic mission in Russia.

Let us remind you that from July 5 in Kazakhstan restrictive measures are being tightened for 14 days in connection with the situation with coronavirus.

Is a passport required for entry?

So, our compatriots cross the Russian-Kazakh border without a visa. But do you need a foreign passport to travel to Kazakhstan? It is not a mandatory document. Citizens of Russia have the right to enter a neighboring state using any of the following documents:

  • passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation;
  • international passport;
  • diplomatic/service identification card;
  • seaman's certificate;
  • certificate of travel to the country of citizenship.

Thus, you will not need to specially apply for a foreign passport for holidays or doing business in Kazakhstan. It is not required for other purposes of staying in the republic (visiting relatives and friends, finding employment, etc.). This means that the answer to the question of whether a foreign passport is needed for Kazakhstan is negative. Entry into the country is permitted on the basis of an internal identity document.

However, there are no requirements for the validity period of the passport. The main thing is that it is valid at the time of entry and exit. If the crust expires before departure, you will have to obtain a departure certificate. They are issued by the Russian Consulate.

Registration and stay

Without certification of their presence in the country, Russian citizens can stay on the territory of Kazakhstan for thirty calendar days (month). This number also includes holidays and weekends. If you plan to stay here longer, you must contact the internal affairs authorities to register and legalize your stay.

There is also no question about whether a foreign passport is needed to fly to Kazakhstan. However, passengers crossing the border through airspace are marked in the same way. This process for Russian citizens in Kazakhstan includes the presentation of documents confirming your identity, a migration card issued when visiting the country, as well as an application form.

When visiting family and friends, registration must be carried out in their presence to verify the purpose of your trip. When staying in hotels or inns, the procedure is taken over by its staff. Also, for a separate fee, any local travel agency will solve problems of this kind for you. For an independent backpacking trip that involves living in a tent, registration can also be done, but it will require additional time, money and effort.

Do I need a passport for children to travel?

Separately, it is worth answering one more question regarding a foreign passport. Do I need to take a foreign passport to Kazakhstan for a child? No, you don't have to do this either.

A young Russian traveling to Kazakhstan also does not need a foreign passport. Of course, provided that he has another identification document.

The full list of documents on the basis of which a child has the right to cross the Kazakh border is as follows:

  • birth certificate with a stamp or citizenship insert (for children under 14 years of age);
  • Russian passport (for teenagers over 14 years old);
  • international passport.

According to any of these documents, a young citizen has the right to enter a Eurasian country. A child, like an adult Russian, can stay in Kazakhstan without a visa for 90 days. If a long-term stay is expected, a residence permit is subsequently requested.

Migration card

The procedure for crossing the border between Russia and Kazakhstan is quite simple. You can enter the republic visa-free through any official checkpoint - railway, road, air or sea.

If a citizen of the Russian Federation crosses the border using a foreign passport, the migration card is not filled out. But only on the condition that the visitor stays in the country no longer than 30 days. If a visitor arrives with a Russian passport, filling out migration cards is mandatory for all persons over 16 years of age. Length of stay does not matter.

Sample migration card

The migration document contains basic information about the visitor - full name, purpose and timing of the visit, information about children under 16 years old who are participating in the trip, etc. If a Russian citizen arrived in Kazakhstan to perform work, the purpose of arrival is written “To work” on the migration form. A work permit is not required for employment.

Migration cards are issued free of charge at border checkpoints. Information can be entered in Russian/Kazakh/English. The document must be kept until the end of the visit.

Border crossing

Russians can cross the border in two ways:

  • With a Russian passport. In this case, the citizen will have to fill out a migration card, which indicates personal data and purposes of travel. A mark indicating the border crossing is placed on the form. The form is returned to the border guards upon returning home.

The picture shows a sample migration card:

  • By passport. In this case, there is no need to fill out a migration card. The border crossing stamp is placed directly on the identity card, which greatly simplifies the procedure for passing customs control.

See the following video for rules for filling out a migration card:

If a citizen of the Russian Federation has somehow lost his migration card, he will have to restore the form. This procedure may take several months, and the traveler will have to remain in Kazakhstan throughout this period. In addition, the tourist must prove that he arrived in the state legally, and pay a fine when crossing the border.

After arriving at the place, the citizen must go through the registration procedure if he plans to stay in the country for more than 30 days. If the trip lasts less than a month, then there is no such need.

Visa regime with Kazakhstan

Back in 2005, Russia and Kazakhstan entered into a visa-free regime, and it is still valid today. But not many people know that you can cross the border of this state even without a passport. Yes, this is true, you can use a regular ID card of a citizen of the Russian Federation to enter. Also, at the border, the person should present:

  • migration card (already filled out)
  • ID card (internal or international passport)
  • paper confirming the birth of the child (if a minor is traveling), and the approval of the second parent if the child is accompanied by one of the parents

Kazakhstani beauties

This card is issued absolutely free and filled out by hand. It contains information about the purpose of the visit and personal data of the foreign guest. Having a card is mandatory, because without it, border control will not let a person through. For the entire time that the visiting person stays in Kazakhstan, this document will be the only confirmation of his legal presence in the state.

Important! If for some reason the migration card is lost, you must immediately apply for a duplicate, since after three days, penalties may be imposed on the person.

Without hindrance, our compatriots can stay on the territory of the republic for ninety days, and if after this period it is necessary to extend the period of stay, then the proper paperwork must be drawn up. This document will allow you to live in Kazakhstan for some additional time.
