Obtaining a residence permit in Thailand for a Russian citizen when purchasing real estate, a pensioner

Recently, Russian citizens often vacation in Southeast Asia. Thailand is attracted by the favorable climate, cultural level and unique nature. During tourist trips, people dream of moving permanently to this country. Obtaining citizenship from Thailand, formerly Siam, is not easy. The kingdom's authorities do not welcome the increase in the country's population. But Siam is a civilized state and has population migration programs. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a Thai passport, although with great difficulty.

Who can apply for Thai citizenship according to the laws of the country?

The specifics of obtaining citizenship of the kingdom are established by laws signed at the beginning of the 20th century. After this, changes occurred in the legislation. The last time the citizenship rules were changed was in 2008. Subsequently, in 2013, it was decided to make further amendments to the law, but this was not done. Therefore, residents of Russia who decide to move must act in accordance with the regulatory act that was adopted in 2008.

Do you want to be guaranteed to obtain a residence permit, permanent residence, or citizenship in another country? See the rating of reliable migration companies!

The law defines the condition under which one can obtain the status of a Thai citizen by blood or land. Migration departments do not use the latter option, replacing it with naturalization.

To obtain citizenship, you must fulfill a list of conditions:

  1. Live permanently in the country for more than 10 years. During this period, you can travel abroad for a short time.
  2. Have a residence permit, which can be obtained not immediately, but after three consecutive years of residence.
  3. Accumulate government fee receipts worth more than 10 thousand baht.

The age of the applicant also plays an important role. People over 21 years of age are allowed to submit documents.

Attention! A child born in Thailand to foreign citizens is not considered a national of the country.

Who is legally prohibited from becoming a citizen of the kingdom?

Certain categories of people are prohibited from obtaining the status of a citizen of Siam. These include:

  1. Committed violations of civil law.
  2. Having a criminal record in Thailand.
  3. Insufficient knowledge of the Thai language.

The last requirement is difficult for Russians to fulfill, since studying language culture and grammar rules is not accessible to everyone due to its complexity. But to pass the test, it is enough to be able to speak the local dialect. Within 10 years of living in Thailand, anyone can learn to speak the local dialect.

Thai citizenship for Russians

Why is it even needed? A standard set of civil rights, the ability to vote, to stand up for voting in municipal elections, for example, to benefit from state support for education and medicine, and to take out loans. Therefore, the question “how to obtain Thai citizenship for a Russian” is acute for many. Thai banks do not provide loans to foreigners. It makes sense to resort to this long and complex procedure if you or your family decide to settle in the Kingdom, if not forever, then for a very long time. How can a Russian citizen obtain Thai citizenship? In general, state policy towards visitors, especially if they are educated, wealthy, behave decently, is favorable. The easiest way for Russians to obtain Thai citizenship is to give birth to a child in the country. This practice is less popular than childbirth in the USA, for example, but it is quite common. Thus, babies born in the country automatically have the right to apply for citizenship in Thailand. For his parents or other residents of Russia, 2 ways have been developed to obtain Thai citizenship. The first one is quite long:

  • knowledge of the state (Thai) language is required at a high level, confirmed by documents,
  • official employment,
  • five-year period of residence in the country,
  • no friction with local law, no earlier prosecution.

Are there any other options on how to obtain Thai citizenship? The second way is faster. The law stipulates that if you marry a resident of the Kingdom or are married to a resident, the requirements for length of residence and language proficiency in order to obtain citizenship in Thailand are removed. That is, living in the country for 5 years and knowing the language at an acceptable level in this case will not be required to obtain citizenship in Thailand. Apparently, it is assumed that you will interact with society with the help of your husband/wife. Dual citizenship is not provided. Therefore, when acquiring citizenship in Thailand, you will have to renounce your original one.

Ways to obtain citizenship

If you comply with all the requirements of the laws of Siam, you can use the methods discussed below to obtain citizenship.

Right of blood

In jurisprudence, this right is called “By birth” or “By descent”. This means that every child born to a Thai father can hope to gain citizenship. In this case, the place of birth can be anywhere, even in another country.

Children's citizenship must be registered by the mother and father. To do this, you need to fill out an application form and collect a list of documents:

  1. Photo of a child.
  2. Birth certificate, copies certified in the prescribed manner.
  3. Certificate of marital relationship.
  4. Passports of mother and father.

All documents must be submitted along with two certified copies. The time to produce a birth certificate takes no more than 5 days, not counting weekends.

By marriage

The method is the most suitable for Russian residents, but it has pitfalls. You should find out about them in advance of marriage. For foreigners, the inequality between women and men in marriage may come as a surprise.

A woman married to a Thai man has the following rights:

  1. Obtaining a residence permit.
  2. Providing high-paying jobs.
  3. Possibility of submitting documents for a Thai passport. Such statements are considered in favor of the woman.

A man who marries a citizen of the kingdom will not immediately be able to obtain a passport. He can only hope to be provided with an official place of work and a residence permit. Only after 12 years of cohabitation in a marital relationship will a foreigner be eligible to apply for Thai citizenship. However, the fact of marriage may serve to revoke the citizenship of a Thai woman.

Attention! When considering the application, the migration service takes into account the family income, which should not be less than 30 thousand baht monthly.

Naturalization

The principle is long-term residence in Siam. As a result, a person gets used to a way of life and cannot be distinguished from a native resident. This gives the right to grant citizenship.

It is possible to become a national of a country as a result of naturalization if the applicant meets the following conditions:

  1. Duration of residence in the kingdom is more than 5 years.
  2. Minimum annual income over 480 thousand baht.

Along with filing the application, the foreign person must provide a document renouncing their previous citizenship. Women married to Thais can use the naturalization method after 5 years of residence in the kingdom. For men, this period is increased to 10 years.

People who have received citizenship by naturalization have fewer rights compared to locals.

Such persons are prohibited from:

  1. Take part in election campaigns for 5 years.
  2. Work as a minister or in the judicial structure.
  3. To be elected to government power.

According to statistics, not all applications for naturalization are granted; the number is approximately 20% of the total.

Training and employment

The process of studying at a university in Thailand does not provide the right to a foreign person to obtain citizen status. But students who are engaged in scientific research and pass exams on time can expect leniency in this matter after graduating.

Qualified personnel in various fields are likely to receive Siamese citizenship. After fruitfully working in a large organization for 5 years, a promising specialist can apply for a passport.

When considering an application, the authorities take into account the following conditions:

  1. The amount of the company's authorized capital is more than 10 million baht.
  2. The employee's monthly salary is more than 50 thousand baht.

Employment may be allowed in small companies in Thailand, but the salary must be at least 80 thousand baht.

Other ways to obtain citizenship

In addition to the considered options for obtaining citizenship, the following persons will be able to obtain a passport of the kingdom:

  1. Having made large investments in the country's economy.
  2. Athletes with awards, scientists.
  3. Having a business that invests more than 2 million baht in economic development. In this case, one of the founders of the company must be a Thai who owns a share of at least 51%.
  4. People with unique abilities will be able to take advantage of accelerated registration of citizenship.

Obtaining a long-stay visa

The most frequently asked question is which visa to apply for long-term residence in the country. Each of these areas has its own characteristics and nuances that you need to know about before making a choice. Each visa is stamped on the passport. And to obtain a residence permit, you must live in the country for 3 years in a row using one type of visa. Therefore, the choice must be made carefully. You need to know the following:

  1. Student visa. It is issued not only for studying at universities, but also when taking specialized courses. Often foreigners get hired to teach English or Thai. Such courses cost about 30 thousand baht per year. The visa is issued for 1 year and can be extended 10 times. Higher education here is less attractive to foreigners, since it is expensive, and for the money it is better to get it in Europe or another more qualified country. However, Thai diplomas are accepted in many countries around the world and do not require confirmation.
  2. Work Visa. To do this, you need to get a job that a local resident cannot do. Therefore, the professions of guides, sellers and waiters are officially prohibited by law for foreigners. The most suitable options are working as a teacher of English or other subjects for foreigners. But for this you must have the appropriate education and experience. The duration of the visa can be from 1 to 3 years.
  3. Business visa. To be honest, Thailand is not the most attractive country for entrepreneurs, since by law most of your company must be owned by a citizen of the Kingdom. And the company's authorized capital must be more than 2 million baht. The visa is issued for only one year. And to renew it, your company must be profitable. If the financial statements show a loss, your visa extension will be denied.

In any case, you must remember that you can get a long-term visa outside of Thailand at any of its Embassies. But you don’t have to return to Russia to do this. You can travel to the nearest countries Laos, Cambodia or Malaysia.

To obtain citizenship, it is necessary to live on the territory of the Kingdom, without violating the laws and timely renewing the documents on the basis of which the foreigner received the right to stay in the country. Any violation of the visa regime may serve as a refusal to further obtain a residence permit or citizenship.

Dual citizenship: is it possible?

Thai laws aim to prohibit dual citizenship. If a resident of Russia moves and obtains citizenship, he will automatically lose his Russian passport.

There are only two exceptions:

  1. A child born of a Thai father, but having citizenship of another state, retains the document until adulthood. After this, he must choose one of two citizenships.
  2. A woman who marries a foreign man does not have to renounce her previous citizenship. In this case, the status remains, but the rights come into effect only upon divorce or death of the spouse.

How to obtain Thai citizenship

  1. start a business activity in the country or actively invest in the Thai economy in the amount of 200 thousand US dollars;
  2. enter into a legal union with a person who already has Thai citizenship . In this case, women immediately receive citizenship, while men who tie the knot with a Thai woman can only receive a residence permit and the right to work. After 12 years of married life, a man still becomes the owner of the coveted status of a citizen of Thailand.
  3. enroll in an educational institution in Thailand or prove yourself in research work.

In pursuit of eternal summer, wintering in Thailand is no longer a novelty for Russians. Some people extend their vacation in the land of smiles by enrolling in training courses that give them the right to stay for a long time. But some people don’t stop here and dream of moving to Thailand for permanent residence. But in order for our tourists from the CIS countries to become a full citizen of Thailand , having received Thai citizenship , they need to meet a number of established requirements.

Procedure for obtaining citizenship

Russians hire lawyers or advocates from Thailand to obtain citizenship. This is due to the procedure for legalizing documents.

Procedure:

  1. Advance certification of originals and copies of documents in government agencies in the person’s homeland.
  2. Translation of all certificates and applications into Thai by licensed translators.
  3. Providing a package of papers for certification to the Siamese Migration Service.

The stages discussed are only preparation for obtaining Thai citizenship.

Package of papers

The list of established documents includes:

  1. Completed application form.
  2. International passport.
  3. Color photographs – 3 pieces, size 3.5x4.5 cm.
  4. An extract from a personal account in a Thai bank. The amount should not be less than 400 thousand baht.
  5. Certificate confirming annual income - not less than 480 thousand baht.
  6. Certificate of no criminal record.
  7. Original tax receipts for the last two years and their copies. The total amount should not be less than 200 thousand baht.
  8. A certificate proving the purpose of visiting the state.
  9. Certificate of residence, certificate of ownership of the apartment, or lease agreement.

All documents are provided only in the native language of Thailand.

Where is citizenship obtained?

The Thai authorities do not create unnecessary bureaucracy for Russians. Therefore, the set of documents should definitely be submitted to one place. This is the Migration Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which tests knowledge of the Thai language. Foreigners are not required to visit other government institutions.

Cost and terms

The amount of money to pay for the citizenship registration service consists of the taxes and payments discussed above. The procedure for issuing a passport may take up to 6 months after a positive result is issued.

Obtaining a residence permit in Thailand

Many Russians would like to spend their lives in a sunny country on the seashore. Therefore, moving to Thailand has become popular among our compatriots. Some come here to spend a couple of winter months in a tropical climate, while others seek to move to the kingdom for a long time and obtain a residence permit.

Residence permit in Thailand: features and advantages for migrants

  • Opportunity to find official employment;
  • Live without regular visa extensions;
  • The right to get credit;
  • Conclude long-term land lease agreements;
  • Take advantage of discounts when visiting museums, national parks, and also purchase transport tickets with a significant discount.

After receiving a residence permit, a Russian retains his citizenship, but begins to enjoy some rights previously available only to residents of the kingdom.

Methods and grounds for obtaining a residence permit in Thailand for Russians

Obtaining a residence permit is much easier than obtaining citizenship of the kingdom. But the process is multi-stage and extended over time. It is preceded by a preparatory stage that lasts 3 years. All this time, the Russian must stay in the country on a long-term visa.

  • Student;
  • Working;
  • Business;
  • Pension.

Potential applicants for a residence permit must pay income tax. Foreigners are exempt from it only in the first year of residence in the kingdom on a long-term visa.

For the next two years, you must give 15% to the state from any earnings. Over 2 years, you must accumulate at least 100,000 baht. This amount is considered minimal and in the future the authorities may refuse a residence permit. The most suitable amount is 200,000 baht. In this case, the foreigner will not be recognized as poor.

The legal framework of the kingdom provides for 6 ways to obtain a residence permit.

Investments in the country's economy

  • Construction;
  • Tourism business;
  • Industry.

Therefore, businessmen who are able to invest at least $200,000 into the kingdom’s economy have every reason to obtain a residence permit.

Opening a representative office

Thailand is interested in attracting foreign capital and entrepreneurs. Those who managed to open their representative office or subsidiary in the country can apply for a residence permit.

Own business

  • Construction;
  • Tourism.

According to the laws of the kingdom, foreigners can freely open companies and conduct business, but only if a Thai person owns a controlling stake in the company. He must be one of the founders and have 51% of the shares.

Marriage

This is the most popular method of obtaining a residence permit among foreigners. Men and women who marry Thais immediately receive the right to apply for a residence permit. But women are in a privileged position, since if they marry a resident of the kingdom, they soon receive citizenship of the country.

Retirement age

In Thailand there is no such thing as government benefits upon reaching a certain age. Therefore, Russian pensioners are in a better position than Thais.

  • Knowledge of language;
  • High income;
  • Availability of a place for permanent residence.

Professional activity

  • Civil servants;
  • Experts in various industries;
  • Athletes;
  • Scientists and more.

In general, the procedure for obtaining a residence permit is not that complicated if a foreigner falls into one of the categories listed above.

Procedure for obtaining a residence permit in Thailand: documents and features

Registration of a residence permit takes place in 2 stages: collecting papers and passing the exam.

Preparation of documents

  • Questionnaire (it is also a statement and is taken at the police department);
  • Color photographs - 3.5 by 4.5 (one photograph is pasted into the application form, the second - into the card confirming the residence permit, and the third goes into your personal file);
  • Foreign passport with copies (the owner’s signature must be left on each page);
  • Certificate from a medical institution regarding health status;
  • Certificate of no criminal record;
  • Confirmation of marital status;
  • Education document (a copy will be sufficient);
  • Tax payment receipts;
  • Housing rental agreement or certificate of ownership of an apartment or house;
  • Bank account statements for a period of 3 years (must have at least 400,000 baht in it).
  • Birth certificate (translated into English and notarized);
  • Permission from the second parent, if the child lives in the kingdom with only one of them (the paper is also translated and certified).

Depending on the category into which the foreigner falls, he will need to supplement the main package with specialized papers.

For those married to a Thai citizen

Foreigners who entered into a marriage in Thailand provide a marriage certificate in addition to the papers listed above. The kingdom opposes fictitious unions and will carefully check the newlyweds.

For applicants based on blood

This group includes children born in mixed marriages. If the baby’s mother is Thai and the father is a foreigner, then he has the right to a residence permit.

  • Birth certificate;
  • Color photographs - 3.5 by 4.5 (one photograph is pasted into the application form, the second - into the card confirming the residence permit, and the third goes into your personal file);
  • Questionnaire (it is also a statement and is taken at the police department);
  • Parents' passports;
  • Residence permit of father and mother.

For pensioners

Pensioners must confirm their income by supplementing the standard package of papers with an account statement or other document giving an idea of the amount of monthly income (from 40,000 to 80,000 baht).

For those purchasing real estate

The fact of owning an apartment or house in the kingdom does not give the right to a residence permit. Therefore, its registration for such foreigners is possible only in one of the ways listed above.

An exception to the rule would be expensive housing. The purchase must be made for an amount of at least $200,000. Evidence of the transaction is provided by a real estate office, without which it is impossible to purchase real estate in the kingdom.

For those moving for study purposes

Students need to add to the above package of papers a certificate from the educational institution about enrollment and a contract with it. The residence permit is issued for a year and then renewed every 12 months.

For those wishing to do business in the country

  • Certificate of previously issued work permits (issued by the Ministry of Labor);
  • A certificate from the employer confirming current employment;
  • Certificate of payment of income tax for the current year.
  • Certificate of registration of the company;
  • 12 month activity report;
  • An extract confirming payment of VAT.

It is also important to consider the scope of the company’s activities. For example, a tourism business requires the submission of summary information about the number of tourists served.

  • Tax certificates;
  • Confirmation of transfer of funds from abroad to an account opened in Thailand;
  • Certificate for the purchase of securities (this document is required when investing in stocks and bonds).

For refugees

The process of obtaining refugee status in Thailand is very complex. But if a foreigner still manages to achieve it, then he simultaneously receives a residence permit for 5 years. There is no need to separately collect paperwork for registration.

For volunteers

Persons staying in the kingdom as part of humanitarian or religious missions receive a residence permit for a year with a possible subsequent extension. For registration, foreigners must provide the migration department with a letter from management.

  • Organization's activities;
  • Duration of stay in the kingdom.

Foreigners who come to the kingdom for treatment can obtain a residence permit (you need to choose an institution with a state license). The basis for initiating the procedure will be an agreement with the clinic.

Possible reasons for refusal

Thai authorities often deny citizenship to applicants. The most popular reasons for this are:

  1. Low income level.
  2. Incorrectly completed documents.
  3. Connections with the underworld.
  4. Having a criminal record.
  5. Request for extradition.

If the reason for refusal was incorrect documents and income level, then after changing these conditions, you can re-submit the application to the migration department. But a connection with a criminal background cannot be changed, so this reason will not allow the applicant to obtain a Thai passport.

How to obtain Thai citizenship? To Thailand for permanent residence

I would like to note that the marriage of foreign men to Thai girls does not bring the much-needed permanent residence status any closer, but on the contrary, the Thai woman herself loses her Thai citizenship. (Afterwards it is easily restored, but most foreigners marry Thai women symbolically in temples, but still pay a ransom - Sinsot in Thailand when getting married, how much?)

All this makes our compatriots think about moving for permanent residence to another country (permanent residence), and so that our disadvantages turn into advantages. That is, we want permanent residence in a country - preferably a warm one, with the sea, beaches, a stable economy and a low crime rate, and if there is corruption, then it may not interfere at all, and sometimes even help , especially for foreigners.

Loss of Thai citizenship

You can renounce citizenship of the kingdom on a voluntary basis. This possibility is determined by law. A citizen can submit an application at the country's consulate or embassy. Children from a Thai mother who have acquired the citizenship of a father from another state and do not want to renounce are required to revoke their citizenship within a year after reaching the age of 20.

Siamese authorities may revoke citizenship status if it was obtained fraudulently. In case of voluntary registration of a passport of another country, the person is automatically deprived of Thai citizenship. In addition, if a person received a passport through naturalization, but his behavior undermines the interests of the country, then government officials can revoke his citizenship status.

There is a large Russian-speaking population living in the Thai kingdom, but most of the people have only received a residence permit. This status suits Russians, as they can get work and social assistance. Successfully working Russians in Thai companies are a rarity. Most often, the money of immigrants is sent to their homeland, so it is easier to remain citizens of Russia. But for those who want to live permanently in Siam and become full-fledged citizens, there are no obstacles.

What does a residence permit in Thailand give?

AccommodationA residence permit gives you the right to live in Thailand all year round without a visa. You can also apply for an extension of stay for family members if they do not have a residence permit.
But in order not to lose your status, when leaving Thailand you will need to report this to the immigration office and get a stamp in your passport (re-entry permit).
Visa-free travelA residence permit in Thailand does not give the right to visa-free travel to other countries.
JobYou will still need to obtain a permit to work, but this will be easier than for a foreigner with a long-term visa.
BusinessYou can become a director of a Thai company.
FinanceResidence permit holders, unlike foreigners with long-term visas, for example, pension ones, do not have to keep funds in the bank to prove their solvency.
LoansIt is possible to finance a property purchase with the help of a Thai bank, while foreigners must pay for the transaction with funds from abroad.
CitizenshipA residence permit is a necessary step on the path to citizenship. Children of a residence permit holder born in the Kingdom will receive Thai citizenship.

Stages of acquiring citizenship

The process of integration into Thai society will require patience and financial expenses from the applicant. Since it is quite difficult to obtain Thai citizenship, a Russian citizen will have to prove his importance to this country. First you need to gain a foothold in the kingdom officially. To do this, you must purchase a residence permit - Permanent Resident. It is worth noting that the purchase of real estate does not give the Thai government grounds to grant an immigrant a residence permit.

The migrant must go through several stages of naturalization:

  • Purchase one of the long-term visas: student, work or entrepreneur. By closing one visa and opening another, an immigrant resets the period of his stay in the country;
  • Pay tax and social contributions for two or more years, even if there is no permanent employment. The minimum payment for the year is from 100,000 baht ($3,130). Taking into account the experience of potential migrants, it is better to double the amount of tax deductions. Since minimum payments indicate the insolvency of the applicant, and lead to a refusal to grant citizenship. State funds take 15% of the immigrant's annual transfers;
  • Further, on the basis of a long-term visa, the applicant can apply to the migration service for a residence permit. The application review procedure is paid and will cost the applicant 7,600 baht ($240). After a positive decision, the applicant receives a residence permit certificate and pays a national fee of 190,000 baht ($5950);
  • The next main stage for an immigrant will be the interview. To successfully pass the test, you must speak Thai. Spelling is not required, but speech must be clear and understandable. The national dialect is quite complex, but in ten years you can learn a lot;
  • After living in Thailand for five years, the applicant has a chance to obtain citizenship. But only if the basic conditions that were described above are met in the Naturalization section.

Preliminary stage of integration into Thai society

It is possible to purchase a Thai passport after long-term naturalization, which takes 10-12 years. It is possible to go through this stage with a residence permit, which is issued to a migrant on the basis of migration legislation for a certain category of employment, such as:

  • Business;
  • Marriage;
  • Education;
  • Employment.

Business

Enterprising Russians are quite capable of opening their own business in the Kingdom of Siam. Many have already taken advantage of this opportunity and become owners of travel agencies, cafes and mini-hotels. But, according to Thai law, 51% of the enterprise must be registered in the name of a Thai citizen.

For more information about where it is better to immigrate through investment, read the link.

The process of registering an enterprise is quite complex and a successful ending guarantees the owner the opportunity to acquire a residence permit three years after opening his own point of income. And after seven years, you can try to apply for a Thai passport.

The priority in choosing the type of activity should be aimed at quick payback and stable profits. Otherwise, the authorities will regard the applicant as a failure and refuse to grant citizenship.

Marriage

This type of immigration to Thailand is in demand among women. After marriage to a Siamese citizen, the spouse receives a residence permit. She can apply for citizenship if she finds a suitable job with a salary of at least 33,000 baht ($1,000), which is very difficult. In addition, the applicant must learn the Thai language well.

For men, the situation of marrying a Thai woman is completely different. After official registration, the spouse has the opportunity to purchase a residence permit. Then the newcomer must find a job and receive a sufficient salary to support his children and spouse. After 12 years of marriage and official residence in the country, a man can apply for a Thai passport. But the chances of success are negligible.

Education

Another way to migrate to Thailand in order to acquire citizenship is to study. Applicants can choose universities and vocational schools for themselves. Education courses are conducted in Thai and English. The following specialties and faculties are popular:

  • Travel business;
  • Fishing;
  • Trade;
  • Economy;
  • Textile;
  • Industry;
  • Agriculture.

Upon completion of training, a foreign citizen can find a vacant position based on the diploma received and enroll in graduate school. If you have a positive biography, a visitor can count on acquiring citizenship in the future. But to do this, the state must prove its importance to Thai society.

Employment

Thailand has a high unemployment rate. Finding a vacant position is difficult even for a local resident. Therefore, those who are highly qualified in professional activities can immigrate under the employment program. In addition, you should study the list of prohibited jobs for foreigners, as the government is trying not to deprive the local population of jobs.

But if a Russian has a rare profession and high qualifications and there are no willing Thais, then he can be invited to work in Siam and receive a residence permit - Work Permit. This permit must be renewed annually. Depending on further work activity, the fate of the immigrant will develop. But over the past 20 years, only a few Russians have moved to Thailand to work and received Thai citizenship.

Illegal employment threatens a Russian with a fine of 2 to 100 thousand baht or imprisonment for up to five years.

Do Russians need a visa to Thailand?

To enter the kingdom, Russians can use the simplest visa, but they will be able to stay in the country for no more than fifteen days. For special visas to Thailand, you will have to apply directly to the embassy. The most popular types of visas in Thailand for Russians are:

  • Transit visa to Thailand (thirty days). Allows you to travel through the country to other countries or take part in local sporting events.
  • Tourist visa to Thailand for Russians (thirty or sixty days). Issued to those who visit the country for recreation or arrived for treatment. In the latter case, you will need a letter from a local medical institution and a medical card.
  • Non-immigrant visa to Thailand for Russians (ninety days). Designed for entrepreneurs running a business and making investments, students arriving to study or participate in a conference, retirees coming with their families.

There are other types of visas to Thailand. For example, a diplomatic or so-called “courtesy visa”, which is required for officials in the performance of official duties, but for most Russians it is not available. A little advice. In addition to standard documents such as a passport and airline ticket, they may ask for documents confirming financial solvency. It is better to get a certificate from your place of work in advance. The amounts can be clarified when applying for the appropriate visa to Thailand for Russian citizens. For example, for a tourist visa it is 20,000 baht for 1 person or 40,000 baht for a family for 1 month.
