What is an F1 visa to Korea in 2021

In fact, getting an F-4 visa is very easy! You need to have at least one grandfather or grandmother of Korean nationality (born before 1945), no matter on your mother's or father's side.

Last summer , I called the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Irkutsk and found out a list of all the necessary documents. Conditions are constantly changing, so you better download the list from the official website of the embassy .

A problematic condition for obtaining a visa turned out to be that it was necessary to undergo examination in one of five hospitals (there are two hospitals in Irkutsk, in Novosibirsk, in Ulan-Ude or in Yakutsk) to obtain a “Certificate of the absence of tuberculosis.” In terms of distance, Novosibirsk is closer, but an air ticket from Irkutsk is almost half the price (about 11 thousand rubles)

. Therefore, I bought a train ticket and went to Irkutsk.

This was my first trip by train, over such a long distance. It took 1.5 days to travel

.
Overall, it was very comfortable. You could buy food, drinks and some other related goods from the conductor
.
There were working sockets in the corridor, so all I did all the way was sleep, eat and watch movies. A day later, a neighbor moved in with me and he drank all night
.
The conductors wanted to drop him off at a remote station, but I didn’t allow it on my own - well, where would he go at night, drunk, God forbid, something would happen to him
. As a result, he didn’t let me sleep all night, and in the morning he jumped out into another compartment... I felt ashamed! =)))

Early in the morning, around 8 am, I arrived at the Irkutsk Railway Station! Ah... this is just an indescribable feeling of delight! How clean the air is! The atmosphere, as expected, of a tourist city... as soon as I got out of the carriage, I saw foreigners from various countries... French, Swedes, Germans... at the exit from the station, private taxi drivers crowded, who “charged” prices at 3-5, or even 10-20 times more expensive. At first I ordered a taxi "Maxim", but it seems they have an unspoken agreement with private owners, so I did not wait for the car. I approached the private owner, he saw that I was “ours,” and quoted a very reasonable price.

Here's a small digression... when I had already checked into the hostel, we were returning from a walk with my new friend from South Korea and saw a Swiss arguing with a taxi driver (such a healthy man with a stern appearance, he looked like a bandit from the 90s). He did not want to give up his luggage until the Swiss paid 3,000 rubles. - this is for a 5-minute trip - I told the taxi driver that even if he kills him, the Swiss will not pay him a penny from above, since they instill faith in justice from the cradle

.
And so it happened, the taxi driver got tired of it, and he let the Swiss go
.
But before that, there was a case when a tourist from South Korea paid 5,000 rubles
.
for the same 5 minutes of travel, and without any regret - they say, “Well, since it’s customary, then you need to give...” Then the Swiss said that this was not the first time that they were trying to rob him, and the Dutch woman who joined the conversation told her similar cases . And it turned out that both took pictures of the license plates and then sent a complaint to the relevant authorities
. This is how Europeans have such a strong belief in justice! I had a lot of respect for the Swiss and the Dutch woman.

I stayed in a hostel (because it was cheap) and did not regret it! Moreover, for me it was simply an invaluable experience! The hostel is called “Hostel 3952” - I chose it because it had the highest rating in Irkutsk. I was met by a young, pleasant girl Anastasia... showed me my bed

.
I unpacked my things, took a shower, rested a little and went to the hospitals to collect all the certificates
.
I did everything in a few hours!
I did a fluorography in the morning, received the results at one o'clock in the afternoon, went to the tuberculosis dispensary, received a certificate there and went to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea . Unfortunately it was closed, so we had to wait until Monday.

One of the deciding factors when choosing this hostel was this table! And he is the same as he was in the picture - gorgeous!

In the refrigerator I saw some products labeled “Free”, that is, you can take it and eat it, someone shared it. I also cut up the sausage and put it in the refrigerator labeled “Free” - this is a very good sausage, I didn’t eat it on the train because I was on a diet.

On Monday, early in the morning, I went to apply for documents at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea - I highly recommend staying at the Hostel 3952, the embassy is just around the corner! All attractions are nearby! This is the best location! I recommend!!!

So, I went to submit documents, but since the embassy (consulate general) opened at two o'clock, I decided to have a picnic by the Angara River... I bought pies with apple jam and meat pies, everything was very tasty!

This is what my picnic looked like... the atmosphere by the Angara River is simply fabulous... clean, fresh, soft air... birds are singing, fishermen are catching small fish along the shore... ships are sailing by... Irkutsk is just a magical city! I fell in love with this city at first sight!

After I submitted the documents, I decided to take a walk... while I was sitting in one of the shopping and entertainment centers, one of my old online acquaintances saw my publications and offered to become a guide. A wonderful person and a wonderful guide! In the photo below, the hostel where I stayed...

The Consulate General gave me a certificate with which I had to come on Friday of that week - that is, on the fifth day of that week. The exciting anticipation began

. They will give you a visa or they will refuse.

All week I walked around the city with a backpack, took a lot of photographs and shot videos. I visited cafes, shopping and entertainment centers, talked with hostel guests and hostel owners Anastasia and Ivan - these two people are simply the most wonderful! Anastasia, beautiful, young, smart and very ambitious - she inspired me! Ivan, an athlete, a cheerful, smart young man! I just fell in love with this couple - by the way, they are husband and wife

. At the hostel I met a variety of interesting people. It was a very very wonderful time!

On the day I received my visa, I thought that I had brought the wrong certificate from the hospital. I needed to get a certificate, and I took a certificate. I went to the Consulate General thinking that they would 100% not issue me a visa.

.
And then I thought: “Yes, they won’t give me a visa, but since I’m already here, I can legally go to Korea for 60 days, so be it, then I’ll return to Irkutsk and resubmit the documents.” I entered the consulate, walked up to the window, and the girl was sorting through documents for some time... for me this moment seemed like an “eternity.” She hands me my passport with an open page where I can see the word “VISA”!
My happiness knew no bounds! At that moment, I felt like the sun was shining outside the window and the birds were singing, I’m sure they were singing and the sun was shining before that moment, but it was at that moment that I noticed it . I signed the document and received the long-awaited visa!

Before leaving, I visited Baikal, where I met a charming Chinese woman. She took me to a Vietnamese cafe, we walked and had fun talking

. Once again I met with my Irkutsk guide (a charming young Buryat woman), we ate, walked and said goodbye.

On the plane I met two nice Buryat women. And we had a nice chat along the way

. They went there as tourists for a week.

When the plane landed, I saw beautiful small islands - there were a huge number of them, and all neat with their infrastructure. We landed and went through check-in - it’s fair to say that check-in is quick and, in some ways, solemn, as the flow of the line is helped by beautiful girls in hanboks (national Korean clothing).

That's it... finally, a few tips.

  • come to Irkutsk (Novosibirsk, Yakutsk or Vladivostok) early on Monday morning to have time to complete all the information before two o’clock, submit the documents and receive your visa in your hands on Friday;
  • upon arrival at the station, move about 50-100 meters from the station and then call a taxi to that address - it will be much cheaper.

A visa is required for most people who want to enter Korea for one purpose or another, as required by current regulations.

At the same time, a relaxed visa regime was relatively recently introduced for Russian citizens, which significantly simplified the procedure for entering the territory of this state, but did not eliminate the need to obtain appropriate permission for certain categories of persons.

In particular, people are still wondering how Russians can get an F4 visa to South Korea and why they need this permit.

Why is it needed at all?

Many people know that, in accordance with established immigration rules, any person who just wants to see some sights or go to Korea for a period of less than two months can, in principle, not worry about the need to obtain a visa permit, since Russian citizens was given the opportunity for visa-free entry.

If a person intends to stay in the territory of this state for more than three months, he will be required to obtain a visa of the appropriate type.

The F-4 visa is granted to those individuals who have completed a course of study at one of the universities in the territory of this state, after which they have worked for more than six months at one of the enterprises of this country. In addition, this category of visa is provided to ethnic Koreans who wish to enter the territory of their native state.

South Korea visa application form

What is its meaning

The H visa is a work visa. Today, South Korea is a fairly developed state, characterized by a strong economy, many progressive innovations, and the presence of a wide variety of areas involved in the promotion of scientific progress.

In this regard, obtaining a work visa to this country in the vast majority of cases is available only to those professional specialists who are highly qualified, have long-term practical experience, as well as a wealth of knowledge that is in demand in the state.

In addition, employment in South Korea is often provided to competent managers of certain narrow areas of activity.

Do not forget that vacant positions in this country are in the majority of cases occupied by their own candidates, but if an employer from Korea shows a desire to hire a foreign citizen, he will be given such an opportunity.

It is worth noting that a work visa is issued not only on the basis of an official invitation issued by an employer in the territory of this state, but also simply by submitting an application to a diplomatic mission. Of course, this option is somewhat more complicated, but if desired, it can still be implemented.

In addition, H visas are available to students who wish to study in South Korea. On the official website of the diplomatic mission you will find a complete list of universities that are granted the right to admit students from other countries to various courses.

Special attention should be paid to the fact that Russians planning to visit South Korea as tourists or as a private visit may not apply for a visa if their stay on the territory of this state is short.

Thus, South Korea has introduced a visa-free regime for Russian citizens, when, in the process of crossing the border, a person’s foreign identity card is simply inserted with the corresponding passport. If a person plans to stay in the country for a long time, he will need to obtain a visa in Russia in advance by contacting the diplomatic mission of that country.

Do not forget that North and South Korea are two different states that are currently in a state of military conflict, and visa legislation in these countries is significantly different from each other.

It is quite difficult to get into North Korea, and if it is possible, then quite strict restrictions will be imposed on the movement of a foreigner. In the DPRK you also need to apply for a visa, and getting one is much more difficult.

Standard Requirements

The list of requirements that must be met when applying for a visa is quite strict and must be followed, since otherwise the person will simply be denied this permission, and it is quite difficult to obtain it again.

Who is eligible for this type

The F-4 visa was introduced to simplify the procedure for visiting this state for ethnic Koreans who do not have an official invitation.

This document is also provided to citizens who have received a full education in this state, after which they have worked for at least six months. It is important to take into account the fact that a person must work in his specialty.

In addition, this category of visa can be provided to citizens who are distinguished by a high degree of professionalism in a certain field, and therefore may be extremely in demand in any Korean companies, if they have not previously violated the visa regime.

There are no quotas for obtaining this visa, and there are also no age restrictions.

General entry rules

At border control, a citizen will be required to provide the following list of documents:

  • a foreign identity card valid for at least six months at the time of entry;
  • migration card filled with all necessary information;
  • customs declaration, which must be filled out;
  • round-trip tickets and reserved hotel room;
  • printout of confirmation that the citizen is solvent (the document is drawn up in English);
  • student card, if at the time of the trip the person is studying at a university.

In the vast majority of cases, border guards work with Russian citizens as correctly and quickly as possible, without conducting any thorough searches or carrying out detailed checks of documentation, and therefore the border crossing often takes no more than ten minutes.

All adults at airports or seaports must undergo facial photography and fingerprinting using specialized equipment.

In accordance with the established rules, if you do not have biometrics, you will not be able to visit the territory of South Korea.

The migration card must be filled out while still on board the transport on which the citizen is traveling.

In this case, information from the first page of the foreign ID card, the address of residence in Korea, the duration of the planned trip, and the presence or absence of children are indicated.

The customs declaration form is provided to citizens in English.

The citizen is asked whether he plans to take with him:

  • goods for sale;
  • plants or animals;
  • weapon;
  • cash over $10,000;
  • other items prohibited for transportation.

The declaration is submitted one for a specific person or for the whole family.

Main features of the F4 visa to South Korea for Russians

The F4 visa allows its holder to fully reside in South Korea and engage in work activities in any region of this country. The document is in no way limited in validity, but the visa will need to be extended after its five-year period has expired.

In the vast majority of cases, this procedure does not cause any difficulties, since this is a multiple permit, which is not limited by either the duration of stay in the country or the number of entries.

Russians receiving such a visa can work in the following fields of activity:

  • industry;
  • fish farming and agriculture;
  • livestock farming;
  • other areas characterized by a shortage of local personnel for highly qualified specialists.

In practice, managers of various companies in Korea itself are much more willing to hire employees for various positions who apply for an F4 visa instead of an H2, since in this case a slightly smaller amount is paid to the state.

Another important advantage of this permit is that the document holder can apply for an additional visa permit for his family, that is, for all minor children and a spouse.

Such a visa will be provided for three months, but a person who legalizes his position on an issued F4 visa has the opportunity to extend it.

Other formalities

In addition to the already mentioned features of obtaining and using an F4 visa, it is worth taking into account several other points that may be useful when obtaining such permission.

Other details of the procedure

Any Russian citizen can obtain a visa to South Korea without any difficulties. First of all, for this, the receiving party from Korea, acting as a guarantor for the duration of their stay in the territory of this state, will need to submit a petition to the territorial division of the immigration service.

The guarantor, in accordance with the established rules, can be a legal or natural person, that is, an employer, friend or relative who is a citizen of this state and is a permanent resident. At the same time, if a person is going to receive an F-4 visa, then in this case he can omit this requirement.

In addition to the already mentioned categories of persons, such visas are also granted to highly qualified specialists who have been in South Korea for a certain period of time without having recorded violations of the current legislation of this country.

To obtain a visa, you will need to contact the diplomatic mission of that country along with a complete list of documents, including a completed application.

Sample birth certificate

Features for foreigners

The main condition for obtaining F4 for foreigners is Korean roots. By receiving such a certificate, a person can work for a long period of time, get an education, or simply relax in South Korea.

. It is worth noting the fact that this type of visa is universal, and if desired, with this document it will be possible to obtain citizenship.

In the vast majority of cases, a visa is granted to citizens for a period of three months to two years, and in accordance with established rules, the holder of the permit must cross the border every two years to renew it. You can extend your visa without any difficulties by contacting the diplomatic mission of South Korea.

In order to apply for official citizenship of this state, you will need to stay on a visa in the territory of this state for at least five years.

Terms of consideration and issuance

In accordance with the established rules, the maximum period for obtaining a visa permit is 30 days.

Many Russian citizens believe that they can receive a ready-made permit in no more than one week, but in practice, in such a short period of time, visas are provided only to those people who apply for a short-term permit.

What you should pay attention to

To ensure that the visa application procedure does not cause any difficulties and goes as quickly as possible, it is worth understanding the main features that you will encounter during the process.

Contacting embassies

In order to obtain a visa permit, you will first need to prepare a certain list of documents provided for by current legislation. It is worth noting that in order to obtain a visa to this state, you do not need to provide confirmation that the citizen has booked a hotel room or any other accommodation before the trip.

Similarly, there is no need to demonstrate proof of a positive financial condition, as well as certificates from a bank account or place of work.

When the list of documents has been prepared, you will need to hand them over to authorized employees of the South Korean diplomatic mission yourself or send them from any region using the help of the Pony Express organization. After all the necessary papers have been submitted, the applicant will only have to wait for the consulate’s decision.

Embassies today are located in the following cities:

  • Saint Petersburg;
  • Irkutsk;
  • Vladivostok;
  • Moscow.

List of papers

In order to obtain an H2 visa, you do not need to collect a large list of documents, and it will be enough to provide the following package of papers:

  • an application filled out with the necessary information about the applicant;
  • a photograph taken in standard passport format against a light background;
  • documents confirming payment of the established visa fee;
  • birth certificate confirming the applicant's citizenship;
  • foreign identity card.

After that, depending on which applicant has a residence status in Russia, an additional list of documents may also be required. First of all, in some cases they require a certificate of absence of tuberculosis, but, in addition to it, they may also require a certificate of good conduct, which can be requested from the prosecutor's office or on the State Services portal.

The following documents may also be required:

  • An extract made from documentary records of family relationships or a notarized copy of the registration book of deceased persons or those who have lost Korean citizenship. This document is required for those persons whose birth was recorded in the register of family relations, the register of the dead or the list of persons who have lost citizenship.
  • Documents that confirm the citizenship of the applicant's direct relative. If the applicant's ancestors had South Korean citizenship, he must provide a document confirming this fact
    . A similar rule applies to those whose brothers and sisters are also Korean citizens.
  • A certificate confirming the status of a fighter for the independence of Korea or a hero of this country. Family members can provide a document confirming their relationship with this person.
  • Documents confirming the presence of orders or medals, as well as certificates awarded to a Korean citizen or a relative of the applicant.
  • A document confirming participation in a lottery that allows you to win an H2 visa to South Korea, if the citizen does not have his own resident in this state.

A person's belonging to a certain generation can be confirmed by the birth certificate of the applicant or one of his relatives, depending on which generation the person is Korean. In particular, the birth certificate of the applicant's parents and grandparents may be required.

Comparison with other types

H2 is a multiple-entry visitor visa that allows a citizen to work in South Korea for no more than three years. This permit does not allow working in offices or conducting business activities, and is issued to those individuals who are at least a quarter Korean and over the age of 25.

Starting from May 20, 2013, this visa cannot be issued to persons who do not have any citizenship at the time of submitting documents to the diplomatic mission.

Citizens of other countries can apply for an H2 visa if they have a residence permit in Uzbekistan or registration valid for more than one year.

Design features

In order to obtain a long-term visa permit, the applicant will need to provide confirmation that he has a guarantor in South Korea.

As such, in accordance with established rules, a certain employing company can act as such if a person is applying for a work visa, or a private individual if he wants to visit a close relative. In this case, the guarantor must be a resident or full citizen of South Korea.

The guarantor will need to contact the territorial division of the immigration service with the appropriate petition, after which the applicant himself will be able to contact the diplomatic mission located in Moscow or one of the other large cities.

Cost and terms

Any visa to South Korea is distinguished by its validity period, after which a person is given the opportunity to renew the existing document or leave the territory of this state. Depending on the purpose for which a person intends to travel to this country, the validity period of the permit issued to him can range from three months to two years.

It will be possible to renew the document without leaving the territory of South Korea, since it is enough to simply contact the nearest immigration office.

The cost of registration will also depend on what kind of visa a person wants to receive. If he requires a single-entry long-term visa of the H2 category, he will need to pay $90 for it, while for a multiple long-term permit the cost will already be $120.

FAQ

How to apply for a visa?To apply for a visa, you need to contact the South Korean consulate in Russia and provide all the necessary documents there.
Is it possible to travel without a visa?In accordance with current rules, Russian citizens can stay in Korea for 60 days without applying for a visa.

Some Russian citizens who are direct descendants of immigrants from Asian countries seek to return to their historical roots; one way to do this is to use the F4 visa to South Korea for ethnic Koreans. Let's try to figure out how to get it and what rights it gives, why it is considered perhaps the most comfortable way to get a job in this Asian country.

Who is eligible for an F4 visa?

The F4 visa was introduced to simplify the procedure for ethnic Koreans coming to South Korea without an invitation. It is also intended for citizens who were educated in South Korea and who have worked for at least six months in their specialty.

Sample visa to South Korea

This type of visa can be obtained by professional workers who are in high demand at Korean enterprises and who have not previously violated the visa regime.

The right to obtain an F4 visa is given to citizens of the Russian Federation up to three generations, which also includes those who were born and lived in the Union before August 15, 1945.

Therefore, visa applications can be submitted by citizens who were born before 08/15/1945, their children, this is considered the second generation, and their grandchildren, the third generation. There is no quota for obtaining a visa. There are no age restrictions for registration of documents.

In 2021, citizens who have received this type of visa can find employment in such industries as:

  1. Industry;
  2. Livestock farming;
  3. Fishing and processing;
  4. Agricultural activities.

Who is eligible to receive F4?

First of all, the visa is intended for the return of ethnic Koreans to their homeland, that is, those who previously left their homeland for some reason but can prove their origin. In the 20th century, large numbers of Koreans left their homeland and there are currently more than 5 million potential birthright visa applicants scattered around the world

. On this basis, a visa can be obtained by:

  1. descendants of Koreans in no more than three generations;
  2. ethnic Koreans who have reached the age of 60.

It’s worth saying right away that this document gives foreigners the right to work in the country, provided:

  • received education in higher and secondary educational institutions of this state and worked in their specialty for at least six months;
  • living and working on an H-2 visa after the expiration of the two-year period. This rule also applies only to ethnic migrants.

Only law-abiding citizens who have complied with the visa regime and have proven themselves well in their work activities will be able to obtain such a permit.

Obtaining a visa has become somewhat easier in recent years, however, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of South Korea has issued a new decree, according to which all persons holding a document of this type must additionally appear at the migration service office to submit biometric data: photographing and fingerprinting.

The procedure takes place from 01.10. 2021 to 30.09.2021. The website https://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/main_kr.pt shows the dates for visiting the migration service depending on the age of the migrant

. All information is provided in Korean, but knowledge of it is one of the conditions for safe living and working in the country.

Attention! Persons who received an F4 visa by replacing it with an H2 visa do not have to undergo the procedure for submitting biometric data.

What does a visa provide?

It is worth saying right away that this document gives the right to fully live and work throughout the country. It is not limited in duration, but it must be renewed after a five-year period

.
Usually this procedure is not difficult. This is a type of multiple permit; it is not only unlimited in terms of length of stay, but also in terms of the number of entries into the country
. For Russians, it means the right to work in:

  1. industry;
  2. agriculture and fish farming;
  3. livestock farming;
  4. other areas with a shortage of local personnel for highly qualified specialists.

Employers are much more willing to hire employees with an F4 visa rather than an H2 visa, because they will have to pay a slightly smaller amount to the state.

Another advantage of this permit: the right to obtain an F19 visa for a spouse and minor children. By itself, it is issued for 3 months, but Russians who have legalized their position under F4 will be able to extend it.

Where and how to get it?

You can obtain such a visa at the South Korean diplomatic mission in:

  • Moscow;
  • St. Petersburg;
  • Irkutsk;
  • Vladivostok.

Additionally, it works at the Asian Visa Application Center, but when applying to it you will have to pay a service fee. It is fashionable to formalize it directly in the state itself. To do this you will need to provide a package of documents

. For Russians it will be the same as for people from other countries:

  1. F4 visa application form for ethnic Koreans. To be filled out in English or Korean. Let’s say right away that it is advisable to know the language; getting a prestigious job without knowing it is practically impossible.
  2. It is not difficult to fill it out, since next to the hieroglyphs there is an English translation. Errors and blots are unacceptable.
  3. one color photo of the Schengen standard;
  4. a foreign passport valid for another six months from the date of expiration of the proposed visa;
  5. internal passport of the Russian Federation;
  6. document confirming the change of surname, if any;
  7. medical certificate confirming the absence of socially dangerous diseases, including tuberculosis;
  8. a copy of an education document with a status of at least bachelor's degree;
  9. a copy of the work book;
  10. certificate for places of work in the Russian Federation;
  11. a document confirming completion of a linguistic course of at least level 3;
  12. document confirming Korean origin. You will have to provide copies of documents on the extension of all ancestors up to the Korean ancestor.

Attention! Documents can be provided in person or using the Pony Express courier service; sending by Russian Post does not make sense.

Procedure for registration of category F4

The F4 visa is issued according to the standard scenario, as for other types of visas:

  1. Collecting documents, filling out a form;
  2. Sign up for submission of documents. You can make an appointment by phone, all of them are presented on the Embassy website: overseas.mofa.go.kr/ru-ru/index.do;
  3. Sending a package of papers by courier service or personal submission at the Korean representative office;
  4. Receiving a passport with a ready visa.

Documents for visa

An applicant for an F4 visa needs to prepare:

Biometrics

From January 2021, everyone entering South Korea must undergo a fingerprinting procedure. It does not happen when applying for a visa, as in other countries, but when crossing the border.

The applicant's index fingers are taken and a digital photograph is taken. If a person refuses to undergo this procedure, he will be denied entry into the territory of the Republic.

The following are exempt from taking biometrics:

  • Persons under 17 years of age;
  • Foreigners who are physically unable to provide their prints due to illness or injury;
  • Officials belonging to the authorities of any state;
  • Delegates of official international organizations.

Important! Also, persons who receive an F4 visa as a replacement for an H2 visa may not undergo the procedure.

Difference from H2 visa

H2 is a fairly common type of visa to Korea, also intended for ethnic Koreans, although as already mentioned, prestigious work in South Korea on an F4 visa is more likely. Firstly, H2 does not give the right to engage in business or work in offices, unlike F4, according to which you cannot work in jobs with purely physical labor

. Secondly, F4 can be obtained by ethnic Koreans no more than in the third generation, while heirs who have at least a quarter of Korean blood and are over 25 years old can apply for H2.

It remains to add that obtaining a visa of this type is not very easy and registration can take up to a month, and consular departments reserve the right to request clarifying documents, and you need to be extremely careful to get permission the first time.
