India closes entry to tourists due to coronavirus

The Government of India has imposed a ban on the entry of tourists from Russia and other countries into India for the period from March 13 to April 15, 2021 due to the coronavirus epidemic.

The validity of all tourist visas for this period of time has been suspended, according to the website tass.ru with reference to the Indian government.

  1. International flights between Russia and India will resume on November 27. Flights will fly from Moscow to Delhi. This is reported on the ATOR website.
  2. Ordinary tourists from Russia are prohibited from entering the country. Tourist visas are not issued, and previously issued visas for foreigners have been cancelled. You can only travel for business or work purposes by applying for a special business visa.

Terms and cost of registration

Residents of the Russian Federation located on its territory can receive a permit in 5-7 working days, and for citizens who live in other countries, the period will be from 2 to 5 weeks.

A visa for the purpose of tourism is usually issued in a week, and an electronic version takes from 2 to 8 days. If you urgently need to visit the country (indicate your purpose), you can apply for an urgent visa, for which you will have to pay additionally.

The cost of a pass to India is determined by the type of document, its type and validity period.

If you register independently (electronic version), the savings will be half the original amount. The cost of an urgent permit to enter a foreign country is 6 thousand rubles. and higher. For a more accurate and convenient calculation of the cost of a visa, the website provides a calculator into which you can enter all the necessary data (type of visa, purpose of travel, timing), and it will automatically calculate the amount of the fee.

A tourist permit to enter the country will cost 1,600 rubles, a multivisa will cost 4,800 rubles, and it will be valid for 365 days. A transit visa, as well as a student and tourist visa, will cost travelers 1,600 rubles, and for a medical one you will need to pay 3,600 rubles. It should be remembered that when applying for a permit, a tourist is charged a commission (approximately 135 rubles).

Features of receiving

It is a mistaken belief that visas to India have been cancelled. Permission is required to enter the territory of the state. The procedure for obtaining a tourist visa in 2021 is simple. You can get an e-Visa for India with a validity of 30 days, 365 days or 5 years online, and then get it stamped upon arrival at the airport.

Electronic permission to enter India, which comes by email

  1. The 30-day visa is double-entry and begins to be valid from the moment you cross the Indian border.
  2. 1-year and 5-year multiple-entry visas are valid from the moment of approval. You cannot stay in the country for more than 90 days during one trip.

If you need a regular paper visa to India, then you need to take into account its features.

Firstly, it begins to operate from the moment of issuance, and not entry into the country. Therefore, it is recommended to complete the registration as close as possible to the actual departure date.

Secondly, visas to India can be:

  • Single (SINGLE). They provide the opportunity to cross the state border once during a certain period, which is called a corridor. Indian consulates are sensitive to compliance with this rule. Therefore, if you intend to obtain an Indian visa a second time in the future, it is recommended that you comply with the specified deadlines;

    This is what an Indian paper SINGLE visa looks like

  • DOUBLE. They provide the opportunity to enter the state twice within a certain period of time. But it is worth paying attention to the conditions of the consulate regarding the period between entries. Previously, a double-entry Indian visa was issued to citizens of the Russian Federation for six months, but between them there was a period of 2 months when you could not stay in India. Today this requirement has been lifted, you can re-enter the country at any time;
  • Multivisa (MULTIPLE). It provides the right of unrestricted entry into the country. Opens for a period of 6 months to 5 years. But when receiving it, you should also pay great attention to the conditions and requirements of the Indian consulate. In practice, such visas are issued in very rare cases. To obtain it, there must be a compelling reason for being in the country.

Types of visas and rules for their application

For 2021, there are several types of permits for Russian citizens: single-entry, double-entry and multi-entry.

With the help of the first, a Russian tourist has the right to cross the border of a foreign state once and stay there for a period limited by the Indian authorities. The embassy carefully monitors that the established rules are followed by all foreign citizens, otherwise the violator will receive a fine or imprisonment for 1 year, and a second visit will be denied.

With a double visa it is possible to visit India twice. It should be remembered that there are intervals between entries into the country, which are constantly changing. For example, until 2021, it was possible to visit India again only 2 months after the first border crossing. As of 2020, the consulate has abolished this rule. The time spent in the country is strictly limited.

A multiple visa gives you the right to visit the country multiple times without time restrictions. The document is valid from six months to 5 years. The right to receive such a pass is that citizen who adheres to the rules of the Indian consulate and carefully fulfills the prescribed requirements.

If a traveler needs to visit the republic for another reason, he can order a document in a different format.

Urgent visa

Applying for an urgent visa to India.
A traveler can order this type of document if he needs to urgently arrive in the state. An urgent visa speeds up the processing of documents and is issued within 3 days, the electronic version - no more than 1 day.

Tourist visa

Due to internal political difficulties, the Indian state welcomes short visits from foreigners.

Where to contact?

If a citizen intends to stay in the country for more than 90 days in a row or other conditions of an Indian visa on arrival do not suit him, he will have to visit consular services or intermediary organizations.

Depending on where you live, the applicant may apply to:

  1. To the Consulate of St. Petersburg at the address: st. Ryleeva, 25 (metro Chernyshevskaya), subject to residence in the Northwestern Federal District.
  2. To the Vladivostok consulate at the address: st. Verkhneportovaya, 46, 4th floor (subject to residence in the Far Eastern Federal District).
  3. To the consular department of the Moscow embassy at the address: st. Vorontsovo Pole, 4 (Chkalovskaya metro station) - for other Russians.
  4. To Indian visa centers in Moscow (at the address: Vorontsovskaya St., 20, Business Center "Spectrum") or in St. Petersburg (at the address: Liteiny Prospect, 26).
  5. To single and commercial visa centers, travel agencies throughout the country.

Package of documents

To submit an application you will need to prepare:

  1. Application form (filled out on the website indianvisaonline.gov.in, similar to an electronic visa, signed under the photo and the application form as a whole).
  2. International passport with the same requirements and a copy of 2 pages with personal data.
  3. 2 photographs 35x45 mm on a white background (1 of them is pasted onto the application form in advance).
  4. Copies of internal passport pages: 2 main pages, as well as registration at the place of residence and issuance of passports.
  5. Confirmation of intentions to leave for home after travel. This is considered a round-trip ticket reservation, a hotel reservation during the trip, or an invitation from an Indian citizen with his passport details, certified by a notary.

Copies of Russian documents for a visa to India are accepted with a translation into English and notarized.

Medical insurance is not included in the mandatory set of documents, but it is better to get it so that in the event of an illness or accident you do not have to pay a fortune for treatment.

All the nuances of obtaining a long-term tourist visa to India are described in detail in the following video:

Visa cost

When obtaining a visa through Indian missions, the visa fee depends on the number of visits to the country:

  • 1-time – 2,749 rubles ;
  • 2-time – 6,184 rubles ;
  • reusable – RUB 8,246 ;
  • transferring a valid visa from an expired passport to a new one – RUB 2,330 .

207 rubles is added to the cost of each visa , and at visa centers an additional service fee of 237 rubles .

Payment is made at the cash desk upon submission of the application.

The cost of additional services provided by the visa center can be viewed here.

Intermediaries add surcharges to the cost of visas at their own discretion.

Deadlines for consideration of applications

An application form with a set of documents submitted offline is reviewed within 5 days (weekends and holidays are not included in this period).

On Russian winter holidays from November to March, the period is extended to 14 days.

The e-visa is issued after 4 days . With such a short timeframe for studying applications, it is unlikely that faster processing of the material will be necessary.

When sending documents through travel intermediaries, the period is counted from the moment they are registered at the visa center.

You can always check the readiness of a visa to India yourself: you receive a tracking code either on the website during registration or from the managers of the consulate or visa center.

When receiving a passport with a visa, do not be lazy to carefully check the accuracy of all your personal data and photos. Even in official missions there are cases of mistakes. The following video confirms this:
