The main feature of obtaining a visa to Norway is that the traveler must first register on the visa portal, fill out an application there and immediately pay the consular fee. Only after this, an interview time is scheduled at the visa center or embassy, where you must bring a complete package of documents and a signed letter of support, which will be sent by email after registering your application.

Visas to Norway are divided into two categories:

  • long-term - for reunification with family, education, work. In some cases, you can apply for a so-called “entry”, 7-day visa type D, which allows you to obtain a residence permit in Norway.

consular fee

Receipt of payment of the consular fee

There are two ways to pay the consular fee. It is most convenient to pay by bank transfer, immediately after online registration on the visa center website. You can also pay in cash. This is relevant when you apply for a visa yourself. The cost of intermediary services varies from eight hundred to 1.3 thousand rubles. Urgent visa processing will cost more.

The consular fee must be paid. However, there are exceptions. Thus, the following are exempt from paying the consular fee:

  • persons whose relatives legally reside in the Kingdom (the applicant must attach a document confirming the fact of relationship);
  • participants of official, socially significant delegations (a special invitation is attached to the package of documents);
  • students and schoolchildren;

    Norwegian schoolchildren

  • patients with disabilities;
  • persons traveling to the funeral of a relative who previously lived in Norway;
  • persons traveling to Norway for treatment (a doctor’s report must also be attached to the package of documents);
  • persons carrying out scientific activities;
  • persons traveling on exchange (under a special program affecting twin cities).

Visa processing time

The official period for reviewing documents is 10 calendar days; in rare cases, the time increases to one or even two months. You can find out the status of the application on a special portal; in addition, information about the consideration of the application will be sent by email or by phone.

In rare cases and if there are compelling reasons (for example, the death of a close relative), the embassy considers applications as a priority, but you will have to pay an additional 35 EUR for this.

What to do and what documents are needed?

Before you start preparing the papers, you should first fill out a form on the website online. Spoiler: this process is labor-intensive and complex. First of all, you will have to register on the mentioned service. Then you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire in English. Information about all relatives is included there - starting with mom and dad, ending with all brothers and sisters. Even if you are already 45 years old and have almost no contact with your relatives, this does not matter. You also need to write: what they live, what they do and indicate other details of their biography. If there are children, it is necessary to answer questions about absolutely all heirs. The huge questionnaire is not similar to any of the questionnaires from other Schengen countries. At the end, the applicant is automatically transferred to the payment page - 35 euros will be debited from the bank card for the consular visa.

If you are planning a group trip (for example, you decided to have a family vacation), you can select the Visitor's visa for groups section and fill out the forms there.

Important point! After the procedure is completed, a Cover letter is sent by email, which the author of the questionnaire confirms with his signature. You should print it and the fee receipt and take it with you to the VFS Global office!

At the visa center, bring with you:

Cases of visa extension

If the circumstances are such that you need a current visa, but its expiration date, you can submit an application for consideration of a possible extension. It must indicate the circumstances that force you to resort to this. You need to understand that this must be a very good reason. Even an extension of the period will not allow you to be present in the country for more than three months in a row.

Thus, citizens of the Russian Federation can obtain a visa as simply as possible, and most importantly quickly, if they comply with all the requirements put forward by the embassy. Today, this process is simplified by the ability to submit an application online, from home and in a relaxed environment.

It's worth it, because with a valid permit, you can visit the Northern Kingdom and the lovely streets of Oslo, enjoy a sea cruise departing from Bergen along the massive fjords, or explore the Troll Stairs and ski resorts of Norway. In addition, the visa will give you the opportunity to travel to other Schengen countries, if you have the time and opportunity.

Interview with the consul

Is Norway in the Schengen area or not?

In some cases, the Norwegian Embassy may call the applicant for an interview. Such meetings are arranged with the aim of identifying dubious issues or clarifying information that has raised questions or suspicion among Embassy employees.

In most cases, a visa is issued based on the provided package of documents.

Package of documents

It is necessary to prepare in advance all the documents according to which a visa to Norway is issued. The application procedure may vary, given the possibility of partially completing it online using the sophisticated system used by the Norwegian Consulate. You must register on the visa portal and fill out an online application.

List of required documents:

  1. A visa application form with completely completed questionnaire items or a cover letter signed by the applicant if the application is submitted online (you can download the original application form from the link).
  2. A foreign passport, firstly, is valid for another three months after the expected return from the Schengen zone, and secondly, received no more than 10 years ago, that is, a new one, not an extended one. In addition, previous expired foreign passports are attached.
  3. One photo that should be taken immediately before submitting documents. The requirements for photography are the same for all Schengen countries and are shown in the figure to the right.
  4. The life and health of the applicant must be insured for an amount of at least 30,000 EUR and for the entire period of stay in Schengen. The insurance contract must be valid in all countries where Schengen is used.
  5. It is necessary to confirm the applicant's financial support for the entire period of travel. You will need a bank statement showing the required and minimum amount based on daily expenses in the amount of 50 EUR. You also need a certificate from your place of work about the amount of your salary for six months. If the applicant does not work or is a pensioner or student, then the following are submitted accordingly: a letter from the sponsor and copies of identification documents and confirmation of his solvency, a pension certificate or a student card.

  9. To arrive and travel in your own or rental car, you must provide a driver's license, registration certificate for the car, and a green card.
  10. For tourists, it is also necessary to provide information about the place of overnight stays with confirmation of pre-order of rooms.

In what cases will a visa be refused?

If you strictly follow the requirements of the Norwegian consulate, you can prepare for the trip. Because refusal can only be justified. Most often it is obtained for trivial reasons:

  • The man did not collect all the documents.
  • Errors were made when filling out the visa application form.
  • False certificates are included in the package.
  • The purpose of the visit is unclear.
  • The citizen managed to declare himself as an illegal tourist on previous trips to the Schengen zone.
  • Another Schengen country managed to put a refusal stamp earlier.

The consulate sends the applicant a letter explaining the reason why his application was rejected. Usually this happens extremely rarely: in 2-3 percent of cases.
